D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

Since you can't benefit more than once every 24 hours, the benefit is pushed back every day! 6:01am, then 6:02am, etc. Gods forbid if you adventure late, and now your long rests don't kick in until like 4pm. Like being on swing shift! Have to take a day off to reset the clock back to morning...

D&D General Has 5e become noise?

I generally don't use 3rd party material in any capacity. So I guess you could say I've always felt this way, since ANY 3rd party product is noise to me? But I only have positive feelings towards the growing quantity of products, and hope the creatives behind them make enough money to justify...

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

I admit, I always thought the idea of walking for an hour during a long rest was hilarious. Like... Start your Long Rest. Continue walking for 50 minutes. :ROFLMAO:

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

That's true, complete restoration of combat nova power is certainly an issue. It's one of the biggest reasons why I prefer the Per Encounter style approach more prevalent in 4E or Daggerheart. You can say that about any planning the party attempts. And at least in my case, you can't force calm...

    New Mighty Nein Trailer Released

Looks very pretty! The voices seem slightly off sync, but maybe that's just me. Overall awesome.

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

It's essentially asking if you randomly lose 10-15 minutes of valuable gameplay time. Then it's on the DM to make that 10-15 minutes of random encounter as entertaining as possible. And DMs often succeed in doing so! Not always though.

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

Resting in a "Place of Calm and Safety" probably qualifies as overt fiat, but I try to be somewhat liberal with it. Yes, the inn back at town counts. So might the hermit's hut in the deep of the forest you discover while hexcrawling. That ruined shrine you find in the second level of the...

D&D 5E (2024) Mike Mearls explains why your boss monsters die too easily

Just making Long Rests a "Place of Calm and Safety" goes a long way. I definitely fall into the crowd of people who tends towards a few narrative fights per day. I wasn't about to change my style to force 6-8 encounters, so I looked at resting options instead. A week from the gritty realism...

    D&D 5E (2024) What should the 15th Class be?

Should definitely be room. Rune Knight, Echo Knight, World Tree, Ancestral Guardian, etc already exist. The door to supernatural fighter is open.

D&D General Is Your DM Out to Get You? [Humor]

I once had a lightsaber, and the DM literally had me roll to see if I tripped going up some stairs. I fumbled and killed another player with the saber. I did not come back next session.

D&D General Whom has used the Egg of Coot?

There's a post about that on these very forums! To spare a click: "Oops! I forgot to post one that is rather glaring. According to Dave Arneson the "Egg of Coot" was created from the name "Gregg Scott," the chap who ran the MicroArmor casting company some years back. Gregg dismissed fantasy...

D&D General Is Your DM Out to Get You? [Humor]

Many years ago I came up with a convoluted death trap to kill a major villain who wasn't supposed to die that early. We discovered upon death that it was a Black Dragon in disguise. After the game, the other players were mad at me. They told me I killed the DM's favorite NPC, and that meant he...

D&D General Whom has used the Egg of Coot?

To he/she it may concern. To him/her it may concern. Both feel weird.

    D&D 5E (2024) The Great Wizard Extinction.

It's pretty beneficial to have at least one person in the party with strong Intelligence skills. Being the "Exposition Person" is attractive to some people, and making those critical knowledge rolls can save a lot of time and grief. It IS true that you don't need those skills, especially if your...

    D&D 5E (2024) Best Blaster 2025. When 30d6 damage at level 7 Isn't Enough.

Extended Cloudkill into any enclosed room or just down into a cave. A lot of enemies are immune to poison, but when they are not, things get very spicy.

The Mighty Nein Animated Series to Debut on Prime Video on November 19th

Nothing. It hasn't been done. Someone just mentioned Jester screaming through Sending at some point, and I cracked up imagining someone screaming 25 times. Even doing it as an intentional tactic to mess someone up - like Sending screams to someone trying to give a political speech, or repeatedly...

The Mighty Nein Animated Series to Debut on Prime Video on November 19th

I'm still waiting for someone to use the tactic of using Sending to scream as loud and as long as they can... 25 times. Imagine a GOO Warlock doing that to you all night long.

D&D General Oh Please give me some Happy Backgrounds!!

We don't use it. Or rather, it's something understood to be normal in their own culture, and you will encounter it in kender areas, but kender players are expected to have broken the habit. To be fair, I've allowed middle grounds like Twig Twiddleknot, who checked his pockets before he left any...

D&D General Oh Please give me some Happy Backgrounds!!

That's only an excuse the first few times it happens, a legitimate accident. Then you are told you are doing something very bad, you see you are not in your native culture, and even if it happens without your awareness you take reasonable steps to mitigate the issue. Even someone with no filter...

D&D General Oh Please give me some Happy Backgrounds!!

It was never the kleptomania specifically that bothered me about Kender. It was the absolute insistence beyond any reasonable deduction that they had done nothing wrong. Even people of dubious intelligence can notice how often strange things end up in their pockets, how often they get accused of...
