D&D 5E (2014) I Am Once Again Asking for Your ... High Level Adventures

It's not difficult to upgrade a module to a higher CR. Just increase HP, AC and damage of the monsters, or simply increase their numbers. So, just grab any module you like and edit the combat a bit. As a bonus action, you will surprise any meta-gaming players who already know the module.

D&D 5E (2014) Do you actually use "Lifestyle Expenses?"

From a laziness point of view, that makes sense. I round to whole € too. :) But in game 1 gp is probably closer to real-life $100 than 1$ (in 2022) * * Making this post future-proof. ;)

D&D 5E (2014) Do you actually use "Lifestyle Expenses?"

Haha, that's an excellent quote from someone called @beancounter ! :ROFLMAO: (We play the same way, btw).

D&D 5E (2014) Do you actually use "Lifestyle Expenses?"

I use that table a lot, but not for it's intended purpose. I really hate it when D&D is turned into a bookkeeping exercise, so I will never do a daily upkeep, and I prefer to round down all expenses below 1 gp to zero (we will roleplay that money is spent, but players don't need to update the...

D&D General Do you use languages in your D&D game?

Just for puzzles - some mysterious texts in a tomb or hints on a paper. Never in roleplay with an NPC because that's annoying and everyone speaks Common. Players occasionally will talk to animals (who don't speak Common), which means other PCs cannot understand it.

    D&D General Powerful NPCs?

High level NPCs: At low levels, keep them at a large distance from your players. Consider to not even mention them, and use their minions to interact with the PCs. At medium levels, ensure that your players choose sides, with or against these NPCs. Keep them at a distance. At high levels, if...

    D&D 5E (2014) Perfect spell designs

Polymorph is perfect in my opinion. It's totally worth the (level 4) spell slot. It's often fun and generates laughs at the table. It can buff your party or nerf the opponents and it can be used in and out of combat. 10/10. Resistance is an underused cantrip that gives someone (self or ally)...

    D&D 5E (2014) Build/Stats to Sauron in DND 5e

If you build an NPC and it will enter combat with the PCs, even at a distance, be ready to lose it. Assuming you want to have an encounter between Sauron and the PCs in the game, and assuming you want to have the PCs defeat Sauron (and therefore ignoring the opinions above that this shouldn't...

D&D 5E (2014) Campaign Idea: Very Rare Magic Items at Lv. 1

Instead of giving hugely valuable items to the players and take them away in the first "plot twist", why not give these items to an NPC that the PCs are loyal to? Can be the king, or just the mother of one of the PCs. Session Zero should be used to cement that relation with the NPC. E.g. if the...

D&D General Being a PC in an adventure you've already GMed

So, everyone here is thinking of the same: If you know the whole campaign inside out, your PC might e.g. be able to take a central role in the game, take big decisions, anticipate events or find hidden loot before others. Risk = Chance x Effect Next questions are therefore, what is the chance...

D&D General When (or can) the fiction overrides the DM?

Players control the player characters, and their character development should be the main story that is being told. So, players have a lot to say about the fiction that is being told. But players do NOT control the lore and the world, and if they have some ideas about that they can at best make...

D&D General Finding Stuff in a Bag of Holding

So, it is apparently not very difficult, as it takes < 6 seconds to complete. Given how much stuff typically gets put into a Bag of Holding, I interpret this as "it's magic", and "items magically find their way to your hand". But I think you are free to color that differently. For example "the...

D&D General what would a good orc culture be like?

Vikings! Minus the raiding and plundering, that'd probably make them evil?

D&D 5E (2014) What would the Dragonborn be like if they had the Dragon type instead of the Humanoid type?

Reading up on the non-humanoid races, I don't think any of the players at our table will be interested so it's a purely theoretical discussion for me. But if people are indeed interested I would probably make sure it's balanced, making it up with something that is related to the campaign.

D&D 5E (2014) What would the Dragonborn be like if they had the Dragon type instead of the Humanoid type?

Quick search on the interwebs suggests that these spells are humanoid-only: Animate Dead (3rd level) Calm Emotions (2nd level) Charm Person (1st level) Create Undead (3rd level) Crown of Madness (2nd level) Dominate Person (5th level) Hold Person (2nd level) Magic Jar (6th level) Reincarnate...

D&D 5E (2014) What would the Dragonborn be like if they had the Dragon type instead of the Humanoid type?

I think that if they were of the Dragon Type, they wouldn't be a playable race. (Aren't all playable races humanoids?). <-- [edit] It was pointed out below that this isn't true. And if it's an NPC monster, all bets are off and anything is possible. In the OP, you grant the Dragon type...

    D&D 5E (2014) Players voting on each other's alignments?

Since alignment has no connection to any abilities, skills, etc., a change in alignment has no practical implications. So, mostly we don't care about alignment. But we already do this in a much less formal way. Players declare an ambition to play a certain alignment and get commented on by...

D&D General Maps in adventures: Top-down or Isometric

We have the minis on the table on a grid (which is pre-drawn and cannot be erased), so top-down is the only way.
