D&D General What's your favorite starter sandbox region?

Nope. Most were set in a "neutral-ish" setting that had some elements of the PoL setting (such as the gods), but were not directly related to the Nentir Vale setting. Thanks to those elements you could drop them easily in the NV world, but they were not directly linked. They did publish some...

D&D General What if the Blood War ended? (Possible Outcomes Discussion)

Did that stuff actually happened in some sourcebook or adventure? Or it was just an if scenario? Because, if it was the latter, then the only level of canonicity that stuff had was that of "canonical speculation"... something common in most 2e books.

D&D General What's your favorite starter sandbox region?

Neverwinter. And I have to agree with those who think the 4e version of Neverwinter is a good starting place as well. A bit geared to urban adventures, but still full of juice. My favorite area to start if playing in the Sword Coast. Haven't read Rime of the Frostmaiden, so I can't say...

D&D General What's your favorite starter sandbox region?

Nentir Vale, hands down. Heck, that place is so full of plot hooks and campaign elements that you can have a full 0 to epic campaign without leaving the Vale at all.

    Primordial stats

Well, there is not mention of their rank, thought some of these gods are classified as "greater gods" in the rules. Indeed, they may have become stronger after they got followers, but this still happened during the war. Yeah, according to Heroes of the Elemental Chaos, not all primordials were...

    Primordial stats

Oficially, I guess they only stated a weakened version of Piranoth in Revenge of the Giants. Lorewise, it's stated in many sources that the primordials at full power were more powerful than the gods. The gods began to win their war when they banded together in groups of three to five (plus...

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

Is this really the only "unique thing" Greyhawk has to offer compared to... I don't know, the FR? I mean, I can do this in the Nentir Vale just as fine, and without having to deal with "Greyhawk's sacred cows". I guess that this is my issue. The only Greyhawk fans that I personally know are...

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

I wanted to believe in that, when I read in the book that "the residents react to other visitors, especially tieflings and dragonborn, with a mixture of curiosity and fear" (page 11). Basically, the book encourages that kind of prejudice and bullying on any player that doesn't want to play a...

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

Yet, there is that paragraph in 5e Saltmarsh encouraging the DM to sent angry mobs to any player who is not rolling a Tolkenian character... AFAIK, the only settings without dragonborn are Magic ones, so... and even, they don't discourage you to play one. They just don't present them as native...

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

As explained before, is not that it forces you to play a human/elf/dwarf/hobb... halfling. But it encourages you to do it in the worst way: the DM has the right (abetted by the rules) to play prejudice against your PC every time they are in town, making your experience as a player in Greyhawk a...

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

I may be missing some sarcasm or something, but Eberron encourages you to play what you want, really. You can even play a gnoll (that other settings paint as unredeemable and evulz) and the people in-world wouldn't say anything about it. I haven't played in Greyhawk, granted, but for what I've...

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

I don't have the Theros setting, but I understand if they said "no D&D here" because Theros is not a D&D setting to begin with. Is a Magic setting ported to D&D. And a setting I'm not interested about, either. I don't want a "Forgotten Realms 2: Electric Bongaloo" either. What I want is to play...

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

The thing is, I wouldn't be interested in buying a book that basically says "all the things you like about D&D? Sorry, you cannot enjoy them in Greyhawk". Because that's what that approach suggest. And I don't enjoy the 80s-90s D&D tropes. I barely tolerate them in my table. I maybe a minory...

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

Then, the Forgotten Realms outranks Greyhawk in that regard. Handwavium grows naturally there...

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

Well, there are places specifically designed for this purpose in the Realms (for instance, thr Border Kingdoms area, or Neverwinter if you use 4e), though I get your point.

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

In any campaign setting you can build your own kingdom. If the players want to. If they don't, no matter in what setting are they playing, there will be no appeal to that idea. So, why use this particular idea for publiciting a setting? There is no particular appeal to this kind of play, and...

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

Well, the issue is, I can see people treating it as bad without even reading it, only because it has changes (it happened to 4e Forgotten Realms...).

D&D General For the Love of Greyhawk: Why People Still Fight to Preserve Greyhawk

The problem with that is that the Ur setting must be accommodated to appeal to the new people who is buying D&D (cuz the old guard hardly could turn such a 50th anniversary book into a killing success), but revamping the setting would upset the old guard... Greyhawk's problem is a cyclical problem.

D&D 4E Tropes of the Nentir Vale

We know that narrative about Bane being either a mortal king or a demigod once was a "Mearlization" of the character to please grodnards (specifically old FR fans). I usually ignore that stuff because it makes no sense in the narrative of the Dawn War. If that stuff it's ever brought into my...

D&D 4E Tropes of the Nentir Vale

In an earlier post, someone asked if there were any customized version of the Conquest of Nerath map. This is mine. I've used CargoCulture's modified map and focused in the "Nerathan League lands" region (more than enough for my needs). To clarify, this map is semi-canon. I mean, while all...
