D&D 5E (2014) How does the Phantasmal Force spell work correctly?

I changed my mind. Your arguments sound reasonable to me. The rules say "On a failed save, you create a phantasmal object, creature. or other visible phenomenon of your choice..." (PHB 264). I believe that makes it quite clear. Otherwise, I would have no problems, if my DM would allow things...

D&D 5E (2014) How does the Phantasmal Force spell work correctly?

I agree that this doesn't work for spells like Minor Illusion and Silent Image, because these spells are just manipulating the reality with light effects, etc. But Phantasmal Force is different to that. It takes place in the creatures mind, so almost everything is possible. I find that Bacon...

D&D 5E (2014) How does the Phantasmal Force spell work correctly?

Thanks for your answer! But I think you rule it a bit too hard. I find the answer from I'm a Banana quite reasonable: Considering that this the spell is restricted to only one target + it includes a saving throw I think this is a good balance.

D&D 5E (2014) How does the Phantasmal Force spell work correctly?

Thanks again for your answers! Last question: I found the following statement from a player concerning the question whether or not it would be possible to grab a creature with illusionary lava chains that knock it prone and hold it afterwards. Would you agree?

D&D 5E (2014) How does the Phantasmal Force spell work correctly?

Thanks for your answers! 4.) Could I cast an illusion of a city guard lieutenant that asks his subordinate to follow him somewhere? 5.) Am I right, that in contrast to other illusion spells the hostile creature does NOT recognize it as an illusion, after it interacted with it physically...

D&D 5E (2014) How does the Phantasmal Force spell work correctly?

EDIT: The following is a personal summary of this forum thread: Please note, that I don't claim this to be the only way of interpreting the rules. Phantasmal Force is very vague and this thread was a try to find an interpretation that is consistent with the wording of the RAW and that is...

D&D 5E (2014) Arcane Trickster - What spells are good with Magical Ambush?

Thanks for your replies! Fantasmal Force sounds awesome and is exactly what I was looking for. Didn't notice that spell so far. Does anybody know a good summary about how to use this spell? It seems like it is perfectly suited to exploit. After a google search I found dozens of questions and...

D&D 5E (2014) Arcane Trickster - What spells are good with Magical Ambush?

Hey, I am playing a Rogue (Arcane Trickster). So far, I relied on spells without a saving throw (like Minor Illusion, Silent Image, Mirror Image, etc.). Now I hit level 9 and get "Magical Ambush" that gives creatures disadvantage on their saving throws against my spells (if I cast them while...

D&D 5E (2014) [DM Help] Faerûn's Vendors - A flexible vendor system for magic consumables

[DM Help] Faerûn's Vendors - A flexible vendor system for magic consumables Hey, the DMG states on page 135 that: “Most magic items are so rare that they aren't available for purchase. […] Doing so is rarely as simple as walking into a shop and selecting an item from a shelf.” Besides some...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mounted Tavel Pace

I think that is not correct. The PHB states the following on page 181: "Mounts and Vehicles. For short spans of time (up to an hour), many animaIs move much faster than humanoids. A mounted character can ride at a gallop for about an hour, covering twice the usual distance for a fast pace."...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mounted Tavel Pace

Thanks for your reply! But that is actually a problem. The following calculation shows why: Galopping + normal pace for the rest of the day: 1 hour of galloping = 1 x 8 miles 7 hours of normal traveling = 7 x 3 miles = 21 miles Total = 29 miles Fast pace for whole day (with or without mount)...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mounted Tavel Pace

From another Forum: First of all, thanks for you reply! Yes, I am your opinion: Galopping should only be allowed, if the mount can rest afterwards. So the travel pace can only take an advantage out of it, if you galop the last hour of the journey. Otherwise the resting would compensate the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mounted Tavel Pace

Hey, the rules about unmounted traveling are very clear (PHB 181). But I have two questions concerning mounted traveling: The rules state that you can gallop for an hour. How many times can you do so per day? How long does a mount have a travel at normal pace to gallop again? The rules say...
