D&D General Why do we color-code Dragons?

My personal feelings about player/character monster knowledge is similar to how I feel about traps. The interesting part is not the gotcha of its abilities since that only works exactly once, and once it is known you can never surprise a party with it again. Trying to pretend and not act on...

D&D General Why do we color-code Dragons?

I think you underestimate how many people roleplay without speaking in the third person or using a funny voice.

D&D General Why do we color-code Dragons?

Then my question is the same: What is functionally the difference between a player saying to the group "Trolls are weak to fire" and the same player saying "My character shouts 'Trolls are weak to fire'"? And if you (the DM) deem that is metagaming and think the character shouldnt know that...

AD&D 1E What was so bad about unearthed arcana 1e?

Idk why you'd need to even do that. You can just show them the PHB and the DMG and tell them to read two pages where it says not to!

    D&D General Self-Defeating Rules in D&D

I think its okay to think torches are cool. Just because something is old doesnt mean that it isn't cool or aesthetically pleasing. I also dont think there's anything wrong with the game sticking to an aesthetic or visual feel. Edit: I also dont think it is particularly important that D&D...

D&D General Why do we color-code Dragons?

Okay ill respond to this one. Does your attitude on this topic assume that players ARENT working together and ARENT sharing information with each other? Because thats not a metagaming discussion, thats a social discussion at the table.

D&D General Why do we color-code Dragons?

I think you're making a pretty large leap. Would you punish a player for saying "Hey we need fire to kill the troll!" the first time they encounter one in game? How would you even address that? "Your character doesnt know that" "Okay, well I attack using Firebolt anyways" How about a player...

D&D General Why do we color-code Dragons?

I was saying that there's effectively no difference between what you called metagaming and saying "you know basic facts about dnd because the basic facts are common knowledge in the setting." The latter is a waste of time in my opinion to get to the same result

D&D General Why do we color-code Dragons?

Thats effectively the same thing with a different coat of paint

D&D General Why do we color-code Dragons?

Eh, I've grown tired of the games where everyone briefly pretends they dont know about troll fire weakness or the types of dragons etc.

AD&D 1E What was so bad about unearthed arcana 1e?

For that you'd have to refer to the DMG in several places: the generation of ability scores for NPCs, the rules for general inhabitants, the Henchmen hiring section. Overall, it seems to imply that most people fall under general characters, who roll 3d6 for each ability but are averaged out (1s...

TSR Why would anyone want to play 1e?

Not to mention the rank structures of bandits, mercenaries, and soliders following the fighter tables in 1e. The average 0 level mercenary gets 1d4+3 hp, so less than a full HD but skews higher than even your average goblin

OSR What's more important for a retroclone?

Their purpose has shifted since the originals are more accessible. Now I think the focus is making them more user friendly with modern layout and organization.
