    Forgotten Realms edition question

The wiki uses past tense—I think there's a sort of "intro to the wiki" article somewhere on there that explains this—as a matter of convenience in response to the "metaplot." For decades TSR's and then WotC's "current Realms year" would periodically advance, often in fits and starts (though the...

    Forgotten Realms edition question

Maybe this goes without saying, but the FR Fandom wiki is an incredibly rich resource. It’s no substitute for reading through at least one of the overview books/box sets first, but it’s a really helpful supplement after that. You could run a highly “authentic” FR game just from the wiki.

D&D 5E (2014) Planescape, Bigby, Phandelver and the Deck of Many Things: Covers & Details Revealed!

Why on earth would WotC set release dates for FIVE new D&D products over a span of just four months??? Two of which are deluxe sets at premium prices; two of which are regular books in familiar formats, but with a notable price hike; and one of which is an all-fluff book that retreads the...

There's A New D&D Cook Book Coming With All The Flavors of the Multiverse

Our favorite is the hand pies. The candied apples turned out well, too. We haven't really been disappointed with anything we've made from it yet (around 10 of the recipes), so we're looking forward to the sequel.

There's A New D&D Cook Book Coming With All The Flavors of the Multiverse

According to the FR wiki, three more of these are also from classic Forgotten Realms lore: Goldenstar is a triangular loaf of eggbread stuffed with sausage and potatoes and "drowned in chicken sauce." Talyth is an appetizer consisting of a cracker topped with sausage, cheese, and herbs. Kaeth...

    D&D 5E (2014) When Did 5E Peak Quality Wise?

You're in good company. Just one week ago they released a video in which Chris Perkins literally says of the 2014 DMG, "I don't think anybody in the universe would say, 'That book's a 10 out of 10.'"

D&D 5E (2014) Christopher Perkins Talks About The Return of Vecna, Venger, & More D&D Villains

Re: the 2025 Red Wizards adventure, Perkins says, "It's exciting because the Red Wizards are exciting, but it's also exciting because, 'Oh, what is—what can we do that's fun with the Forgotten Realms and prepare you for that adventure?'" Surely he's hinting at a setting guide here?

Little-known fact, the first draft script was titled Indiana Jones and the Rhizome of Mortality

D&D 5E (2024) Firearms to be made a fixed part of the game, new Weapons Rules

Of course it wouldn’t happen everywhere in any case. But it’s a real enough concern that my spouse, who has sponsored D&D clubs and taught D&D electives at the school in the past, has already had a conversation about the leaked/scooped weapons list with another teacher who’s a current club...

D&D 5E (2024) Firearms to be made a fixed part of the game, new Weapons Rules

I really hope they decide to move firearms back to the DMG. Why don’t I want firearms as baseline player options? It doesn’t have to do with setting or theme. Right now we have a game filled with fantasy violence, but it’s violence of a kind that very few people actually commit in our current...

    D&D General D&D Creator Summit--VTT & One D&D

I’m really not happy about adding rifles and pistols to the PHB weapons list.

Which of these six is the best H.P. Lovecraft story?

Love this show. It was my gateway into the Pleasant Green Universe—an impressive series of interconnected fictional podcasts (what used to be called radio plays) all created by Julian Simpson. As for the short stories, I voted "Innsmouth" of the options provided, but I'm of the view that "The...

D&D General I'm reading the Forgotten Realms Novels- #202 The Howling Delve by Jaleigh Johnson (Dungeons 2)

I never read this trilogy, having heard negative things about it (and having disliked Athans’s entry in the War of the Spider Queen series). But actually you make it sound like the kind of thing I might like a lot—I sometimes tire of the perpetual-combat formula for FR novels and enjoy the...

Honor Among Thieves: Road to Neverwinter Review

Johnson is actually being uncommonly faithful to the setting! Here’s the in-world mail-order catalogue. The business uses a network of teleportation circles. Whiskey—yes, with an e. And there are many references in Ed Greenwood–penned supplements to beer being served cold—as well as, in other...

Challenge: Shows that Deserved More than Four Seasons

Such a bold narrative move to place that story beat right in the middle of season 32 rather than saving it for the finale. Anyway, the whole series makes a lot more sense if you watch from the beginning.

Challenge: Shows that Deserved More than Four Seasons

Season 32 was probably the best ever for CBS Evening News.

Honor Among Thieves: Road to Neverwinter Review

WotC hasn’t produced a novel since 2016. Like the new Dragonlance trilogy, this and The Druid’s Call are being published by Random House Worlds, which is also providing editorial services. I’m sure WotC (as well as Paramount) has a lot of input and can veto things, but it’s not producing the...

D&D General I'm reading the Forgotten Realms Novels- #202 The Howling Delve by Jaleigh Johnson (Dungeons 2)

As a quibble, not all of the FR novels are this length—some are longer, and some much longer (City of Splendors, Cormyr, and Evermeet are all in the 500-page ballpark, for instance), but the majority are 312 or very close to it. And I suspect you’re right about the ending of this one, and how...
