    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Bow + Mundane Arrow = Magic Attack?

They clarified that the ammunition doesn't need to be magical if the weapon is. I forget if it was in Crawford's tweets, or Sage Advice, or both.

D&D 5E (2014) Wall of Force Reality Check (as used by DM not players)

Why wouldn't a Wall of Force provide total cover? The rules say walls provide cover. If the Wall of Force is set up so that there isn't any space to shoot around or over it, it should provide total cover. Just because you can see the targets doesn't mean they don't have cover.

    D&D 5E (2014) Sharpshooter

Ranged Weapons always seemed clear to me since they have ranged and melee weapons on the weapons table. A weapon used in a ranged attack does not make it a ranged weapon. Throwing a longsword at someone, for example.

D&D 5E (2014) Why Good Players Should Not Play Champions

Don't forget Guidance is a concentration spell. So while it has many uses, it ties up the concentration slot that could be used for many powerful spells.

D&D 5E (2014) Why Good Players Should Not Play Champions

Haha, I also like knocking things prone with a hand crossbow bolt, but at least that is more reasonable. You could shoot something in the wing, or leg or whatever and set it off balance.

D&D 5E (2014) Why Good Players Should Not Play Champions

It's not bad. I don't hate the Champion, I just believe him to be a little lacking like I said. A month or so ago I was in an Adventurer's League game and had a BM crossbow expert and used Menacing Attack against a Treant with my hand crossbow from 90 feet away. It still makes me laugh when I...

D&D 5E (2014) Why Good Players Should Not Play Champions

Personally I think the reason the BM outshines the Champion isn't the pure DPR. As shown by both sides presented there are many many variables ( short rests being one of the most important, but weapons used, specific magic weapons used, etc ). The riders are what push the BM way over the top in...

    D&D 5E (2014) Phase Spiders and Surprise

Whoops, yeah, I wasn't clear that "they" meant the PC with the feat, not "they" as in the entire group of PCs. It could easily look like I'd meant the whole party.

    D&D 5E (2014) Phase Spiders and Surprise

If you use feats in your game, and one of the PCs has the Alert feat, they can't be surprised while conscious. I don't know how well you track PC abilities or even if you allow feats in your game but I thought it was related at the very least.

Have You played In An Official D&D Adventurer's League Event?

I did a bunch of home games in Adventurer's League. Those were fine because we felt better about going off the rail so to speak. In actual store games I feel like the content is a bit more narrow. For what it is AL is pretty cool. But a standardized game isn't the most fun way to play D&D in my...

D&D 5E (2014) Playing with short rests, potential problems?

There is something wrong for sure if your casters are running out of spells quickly all the time. Either they are mismanaging their spells, or the fights are far too tough for them. It's hard to tell without more information. EDIT: Posts are popping up while I reply. In my opinion there is a...

D&D 5E (2014) Playing with short rests, potential problems?

The resource management game is how casters are set up in D&D for the most part. If you play one, you should prepare for some resource management. If you don't want to deal with resource management then don't play one. I'm not attacking the idea of disliking resource management or anything...

D&D 5E (2014) Playing with short rests, potential problems?

I don't consider it an abuse to long rest when a party deems it necessary. There's many situations where it would be appropriate for nothing to show up and attack and logically it wouldn't make sense to continue on. Don't force encounters for no reason. If you really feel they are resting too...

UA Monks Introduces the Kensai and Tranquility Traditions

Personally I don't mind if the Monk gets a better healing pool then the Paladin. Paladins have a bunch of spells to back up their healing. Overall I like these two variants.

D&D 5E (2014) DM Help! My rogue always spams Hide as a bonus action, and i cant target him!

Seeing clearly was made a part of the stealth rules via the errata. That's why it's not just a matter of if you can be seen, but seen clearly.

    D&D 5E (2014) Question on Alert

Sorry, it wasn't directed strictly at you but for everyone who chooses to share opinions in the thread. Silent is just the beginning of the eventual argument someone may provide. For silent, invisible, odorless attackers from a distance I still believe the feat should function as listed. No...

    D&D 5E (2014) Question on Alert

I think the feat is fine and doesn't need special DM workarounds.

    D&D 5E (2014) Is looking in the books O.K

I think it's fine for players to know the stats on monsters if the characters make appropriate knowledge checks, and then of course share that information in character if other characters want to act upon it. Having the characters act on the knowledge without knowing it is pretty much the...
