As a player: prefer Homebrew or Published settings?

I have seen a number of people on related threads say something related to this on the homebrew side - that homebrew campaigns are a pain because the kind of GM how makes them is too 'precious and railroady' about the players keeping to the presumption and norms of the gameworld. Likewise a...

Harassment Policies: New Allegations Show More Work To Be Done

No you don't have a good feel, and of course knowing myself immeasurably better than you do, I can confidently state that in fact you don't have any feel whatsoever. So not having one, you really shouldn't have made any further statements related to your presumption - especially with such...

Sorry, medium sized centaurs is laughably ridiculous.

Harassment Policies: New Allegations Show More Work To Be Done

If I see any of this sexist behaviour at Games Expo in a couple of weeks I am going to call it out loudly, in front of the person doing it, right there. The kind of people who indulge in this kind or crapola are fundamentally cowards, and don't like the light shined on their behaviour. Hell, I...

Looking At The Pathfinder 2 Wizard Class

The more I read about Pathfinder 2 and it's innovations, and those already introduced by 5th Edition, the more I want to see a hybrid of the two! :)

D&D 5E (2014) Game Theory. CR and 5E Encounter System.

The House-ruled gritty healing system I used for my last Greyhawk game. Short Rests - HP healing equal to character level (3 x day maximum) Long Rests - HP healing equal to rolled HD x Prof. Bonus (with 1 dice at 1st lvl.) - HD returned equal to level Instant Magical Healing (narratively...

I will take a look at them - thanks for the heads-up.

Potent Cantrip: To "fix" or not to fix?

Very good I have to say. My players were happy with it being balanced with the Archery fighting style bonus, and liked that it was thematically more appropriate.

Potent Cantrip: To "fix" or not to fix?

I house-ruled this some time ago. Evoker's Cantrip When rolling to hit with an evocation cantrip, you get +2 to hit. This is then like a fighting style, and seems much more in-keeping with the Evoker as a whole.

How do I justify a Lizardfolk Cleric in lore and RP?

Kord as a deity is a no-brainer for a LF, and make them a War Cleric and hey presto -something that fits the racial lore without issue.

Conan: Adventures in an Age Undreamed Of - Detailed Review from a GM and Player

The Nature of each character is noted on the sheet, but the description isn't. I tell each player to make a note of the gist of it and keep a note of it myself for Fortune Point reward purposes.

    D&D 5E (2014) Can a Critical Hit miss?

A badly worded line which doesn't actually resolve the issue here. p194; "When you attack a target that you can't see, you have disadvantage on the attack roll. This is true whether you're guessing the target's location or you're targeting a creature you can hear but not see. If the target...

    D&D 5E (2014) Can a Critical Hit miss?

The attackers could have used cunning action to get away, and in any case, there is no indication in the description about how long the group took to react etc. It doesn't matter if someone rolls a 20 to hit a square where no-one is standing. It hits no-one. When firing into darkness or god or...

Conan: Adventures in an Age Undreamed Of - Detailed Review from a GM and Player

Interesting - I haven't played Pendragon since 1st edition first came out and had completely forgotten it was a d100 style game with a d20 resolution system. I have corrected the original post. Would you recommend the Star Trek personality rules for porting across? I find the Nature...

A Cantrip That Does Fireball Damage?!?!?

Perhaps you have misunderstood the situation here. By using your method here, a fireball against 8 Goblins would do 64d6. This cantrip may be able to hit 8 targets in absolutely optimal conditions, but it is point blank - which isn't a situation to use a cantrip in - for any class capable of...

Conan: Adventures in an Age Undreamed Of - Detailed Review from a GM and Player

Yes Pendragon does use roll-under rolls (on d20 as aramis erak correctly pointed out) - and it has the opposed Passions system. Although if you try to define 'barbarism' then a mixture of a few of those opposed passions would better represent it, and in fact the powers of Christianity and...

Conan: Adventures in an Age Undreamed Of - Detailed Review from a GM and Player

Likewise the new Mythras rules (Runequest 6 as it was) would have been a good fit, but Modiphius bought the rights, and made a good job of it.

Conan: Adventures in an Age Undreamed Of - Detailed Review from a GM and Player

Actually GURPS is another well-known roll-under rpg. It would also have been a great fit for Conan if they had produced a new magic system...
