I agree. Scheme and Lisp are only good for weed out undergrad classes and theoretic academia. I vote for C#, Java, or Delphi. Just get a book, a compiler, find an appropriate newsgroup, and go for it.

Do you plan on going to college? If you don't then don't bother with much programming. I think it would be very difficult to get a programming job w/o a degree. Go with the networking stuff and learn linux. The most programming you will need is batch files and unix script files.

I think this all depends on if he plans on going to college. If college is in his future then I would go with whatever he is most interested in. I see a couple of possibilities here... 1) Networking and Sys Admin - get this guy a couple of computers a router and maybe linux 2) Hardware design...

Same diff for me. It all comes together, of course he can't cast it right away because it hasn't been prepared yet. When he next prepares spells, during the process with no extra time or resources alloted, he completes his notes in his spell book.

House rule warning... Yeah, thats one of my house rules, STR checks get a size bonus the same as grapple checks, and Escape Artist checks get an inverse size modifier. I started implementing this after a huge dragon got caught in a Wall of Thorns.

So, the +1 Caster Level Ioun Stone, what exactly does it give my Sorcerer? Increased known Spells? Increased number of spells per day? Increased caster level checks(dispel magic, SR, etc)? Increased pre-requisites for Feats? Increased pre-requisites for making magic items(Golems for instance)...
