    D&D 5E (2024) How can I do a Charisma-Investigation (or a Strength/Dexterity-Investigation if I can't use Charisma) to find a secret door?

This is what is known as a Red Herring. It's nothing more than a distraction argument, because simply being in a rulebook isn't relevant. It has to be a rule to have any meaning. Do I need to link what a Strawman is for you, because nothing I have said is a Strawman of your arguments? No...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

No. That would only happen with 5-7 encounters per day. :P

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

I'm not talking about a bow hunt. I'm talking about weeks to months out in the wild, wild outdoors, with no waxing of the strings. Did you never wax your bow strings? I also think that your materials are a bit better than the adventurers, but that's not really what I'm even talking about...

D&D General Favorite Forgotten Realms products of all time?

2e had all kinds of amazing lore all over the place. It was hard to reduce my favorites to even those few.

D&D General What if every dragon was unique?

No. This was a player issue, not a PC issue. We had all been playing since 1e and this was during 3.5e sometime. It's just hard to get past color = alignment and breath weapon.

D&D General What if every dragon was unique?

I tried it, but my group, all longtime D&D players, had a really hard time with it. Even with me telling them before the campaign began, they still thought in D&D terms with the dragons. Old habits die hard. Ultimately, they didn't like the change. With a group of players new to the game, it...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

I think most players gravitate towards swords because they tend to get the best damage, and also because Highlander, King Arthur, etc. Swords dominate pretty much all of fiction, so of course players are going to prefer those. The magic items fitting that mold is also because of pretty much...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

It was both rules and suggestions. They were rules, that Gygax both told you to follow and never deviate from, and also to make your own and change. They were rules, though, and so were what was in the PHB.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Yep. And on the flip side, I abandoned charts because they were usually so severe that there was too much juice for the squeeze. I didn't have the time or energy to try and figure out the perfect middle ground, so no fumble charts for me.

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

Out of curiosity, how many of those strings were left strung the entire time, taken out into harsh weather environments with no tending, and/or dragged into water, through swamps, etc.? I think your strings are probably much better off than a typical adventurer's. :)

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

The bolded two things are the same. The core books are D&D. What is dominant in a DM's personal setting is whatever the DM happens to like. The issue is that a lot of DMs pretty much just go with the official books, which means their games will be very sword heavy. Some DMs will create a lot...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

They are given the prime seat, but that eighty page spread isn't quite as lopsided as the page count suggests. Swords were also lopsided with long written histories which use up a very large amount of space for individual swords. The histories of other weapon types are typically much shorter...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

I'd have gone with, "If the DM changes it into a hammer, then there is no point." Of course, I'm a huge smartass, so... It's not Oberoni since there is no problem here. You can like or dislike the sword bias, but as it's not inherently problematic, it's not Oberoni to suggest that you change...

D&D General Weapons should break left and right

I've played paintball a few times, and when I did, I paid FAR more attention to my environment in all direction than I normally do. When in "danger" humans are just plain more alert, and dungeons are a lot of danger from all directions.

    D&D 5E (2024) How can I do a Charisma-Investigation (or a Strength/Dexterity-Investigation if I can't use Charisma) to find a secret door?

The rule does not exist. There is no rule that says anything like you are claiming. There are only options given that are no more valid than the way I do it.

    D&D 5E (2024) How can I do a Charisma-Investigation (or a Strength/Dexterity-Investigation if I can't use Charisma) to find a secret door?

I think the primary disconnect is that @ECMO3 keep incorrectly conflating being in a rulebook for being in the rules. Then he places value on "being in the rules" as somehow being more valid than something outside of the rulebook, even though it's not, because it's not a rule.

    D&D 5E (2024) How can I do a Charisma-Investigation (or a Strength/Dexterity-Investigation if I can't use Charisma) to find a secret door?

And as I replied at least three times now, it's not mentioned in the rules. Even a single time. The rules are only the rules. There are lots of things in rulebooks that are not rules, and are therefore not "in the rules." Wrong. Flat out, objectively wrong. There are pictures in the...
