    P90x

Just found this thread and wanted to chime in with my own experience with P90X. Absolutely love the program. I did a round a year ago spring and dropped from 245 to 205 (I'm 5'11 for reference) and 4 pant sizes (42 down to 36) and I didn't follow the diet as suggested in the book. After I was...

    Cannibal hillbilly dwarves!

Not to derail the thread, but when I first saw this title, the only thing that came to mind was that this was the title of the next "original made for Syfy" Saturday night movie. Somehow, it just seem to fit. :D

Why is it a bad thing to optimise?

All other stuff aside, this a very good, and valid, point. This is an example which I had yet to see anyone toss out, and one that I can agree with concerning an optimized player changing the course of the adventure through spontaneity. I can see an instance where the DM expects the PCs to...

Why is it a bad thing to optimise?

And I don't disagree. I can't speak for other players, but myself however, I want to play (or run) a game. If I wanted story, I'd read a book. ;)

Why is it a bad thing to optimise?

No, I quite get your point. I understand that PCs playing under a DM using the illusion of failure will be none the wiser and think nothing of it. They'll think that they scraped by, by the skin of their teeth and had some close calls. I get it. If a DM is using illusion of failure to run his...

Why is it a bad thing to optimise?

Perhaps at your table that is acceptable and even praised as good DMing, but at mine, we consider it quite the opposite. If failure is just an illusion, then we would never want to play under that DM. In our case, without the risk of genuine failure, playing game would be a snooze fest.

Why is it a bad thing to optimise?

So, if I'm reading this right, you're saying that A.) the PCs should be able to resolve an encounter given to them, B.) if for any reason they don't succeed, then it's obvious that the DM made the encounter too difficult? And in doing so should probably already plan for the PCs to need the help...

How recognizable is a dead body after 30-60 days?

Here is a website that may help you: Stages of Decomposition - Australian Museum But, of course, you'll want to take into consideration the environment factors increasing or slowing the rate of decay.

Why is it a bad thing to optimise?

Unfortunately it looks as if you've run out of original ideas for contributing to the discussion, and instead, devolved into the stereotypical "it's time to try and twist his own words against him to win the argument on the internet" scenario. Which is fine, it happens, and I've seen it enough...

Why is it a bad thing to optimise?

That your statement was wrong and needed to be corrected.

Why is it a bad thing to optimise?

No, not quite. Sure, you "could" but that's really a far stretch, and probably an instance that would only take place from discussion in a thread such as this. At the table, unless the GM has already planned such an encounter, say for a plot hook, there would be little to no reason for a GM to...

Why is it a bad thing to optimise?

And no one, aside from yourself, made any accusations that those aspects were excluded from the game. I never stated that you couldn't encounter NPCs, explore, or role-play because you have an optimized character. I stated, that by relying on your own character, or more specifically, their...

    Is D&D "about" combat?

My take on the combat aspect of D&D: In the earliest days, considering that Chainmail was spawned from miniatures gaming, Dungeons and Dragons was most certainly about dungeon siege, killing monsters, looting treasure and leveling up. I think this follows through into the Basic game and a fair...

Could Wizards ACTUALLY make MOST people happy with a new edition?

IMO, no matter what WotC does, there is going to be someone that remains peeved, or becomes peeved by the changes made in whatever the newest iteration of the game may be. Every person has their own personal preference as to what they like and how they thing D&D should play, and there are a lot...

    I miss print magazines.

Yeah, I have to agree, I too miss the old Dragon and Dungeon magazines. But unfortunately it just doesn't seem to be worth the time and money, mostly the latter, to put them out any longer. KQ is out there, but it doesn't really cover a wide range of RPGs, mostly PF with a smattering of other...

Why is it a bad thing to optimise?

Simply put, at our table, we don't place as much emphasis on personal character gains as other groups might. For you, being able to make an Arcana roll is fun. I can understand that and good on ye, if you do. But for us, if one of the players doesn't have the proper skill, knowledge or ability...

Why is it a bad thing to optimise?

When I sit down as a player in an RPG session, I don't come to the table with the mindset of wanting to win. I don't look at RPGs as being a competition or confrontational where the DM/GM is concerned. As a DM/GM I don't run my games with the intent of beating the PCs or winning the game...

New Mearls Article - Skills in D&D

+1, I was reading the description and thinking the very same thing. It should be pretty common sense to know what would and wouldn't hinder a character climbing.

So Legends and Lore was just Mearls ruminating?

I have a hard time believing that Mearls is simply talking for the sake of doing so. It just doesn't jive with what he's been going on about for some time now. Honestly, if I were in his place and had a game/edition/product that was doing really well, why take all my time and energy away from...

New Mearls Article - Skills in D&D

At first I thought the idea was fairly well laid out, but then after consideration I decided I don't like the implementation. I like the idea of simplistic skills, but I feel as if limiting them to a single attribute is the wrong direction to take. Many skills simply aren't covered by one...
