D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

No, they don’t, as I have already pointed out on numerous occasions in this thread. One obvious example: Laurana is described in the book as having “woodland brown” skin, but Elmore always painted her as pale white.

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

Unless I completely missed an earlier one, the first mention of Raistlin having white hair doesn’t come until page 154, when they’re in the draconians’ bamboo cage. Goldmoon is tending to the injured mage, “stroking back the white hair.”

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

Well, I mean what the authors and society in the 80s (and maybe even today?) thought OCD is.

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

I never said it was. My main desires for a modernized Chronicles story would not be about the diversity of the cast but about carefully avoiding real-world cultural appropriation (e.g. the Native American look that Elmore gave several characters) and racial stereotyping (e.g. gully dwarves are...

D&D General Ben Riggs interviews Fred Hicks and Cam Banks, then shares WotC sales data.

I’m not surprised sales were bad in 2013. 4e had essentially been dead for several years by then, and 5e was still in the playtesting phase. There were no new, readily available D&D products to buy in 2013. The playtest era adventures were mainly for organised play or con exclusives etc.

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

It’s not until page 107 that we get an actual description of Flint: “The dwarf looked old, but then Flint had always looked old. His face, what could be seen through the mass of gray beard and moustaches and overhanging white eyebrows, was brown and wrinkled and cracked like old leather … The...

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

It’s interesting to see how arcane and divine magic have changed over the years. These days, everything’s just magic. But in the Chronicles, we have Raistlin stating that the blue crystal staff is not magical. “It is truly a sacred staff of healing, blessed by some god. It is not magic. No...

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

Agreed. I’m not running him down either. I still have a fondness for his art style, especially his landscapes. I’ve just been trying to argue the point that Elmore’s paintings are as much an interpretation of the story as a modern take would be. Moving on to page 35, we have the companions...

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

From page 28 of my copy of Dragons of Autumn Twilight: Caramon wants Tanis and Flint to guess who Tika is. She gives them a hint that Caramon once said she was so ugly her father would have to pay someone to marry her. Tanis replies: “Well, the years have proved him wrong. I’ve traveled many...

"Evolving" is the English word you're looking for there!

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

The main issue with Goldmoon is the Native American outfit that Elmore always gave her in his art. Weis and Hickman just described her as a fur-clad barbarian with silver-gold hair that was unusual for the "usually dark-haired and dark-skinned" Plainsfolk. At face value, there's nothing there...

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

I get that you want to see the characters exactly as you remember them. That’s nostalgia for you. The thing is, no new adaptation can ever be the same as the version in our heads anyway. Casting, budget, writing style: something will always differ. So if it’s going to be different no matter...

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

You're acting like your books would get magically rewritten to match the new version when you know perfectly well that won't happen. As I just said, the existence of the abomination that is Apple's Foundation TV series doesn't detract from my enjoyment of the original books. I can still enjoy...

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

Making a more diverse DL show that appeals to modern audiences does not take away "your thing" (the original books). Whether the existence of such a thing detracts from your enjoyment of that thing is entirely on you. I dislike the changes Apple has made to Foundation enough that I have no...

D&D 5E (2024) King Graham Lives (in dnd!)

King’s Quest! That takes me back to my youth. I only ever played 4 and 6. Never could get Rosella out of that damned whale! I think I did eventually beat 6, but only after multiple retries. Gotta love those old games that let you progress only to get stuck because you didn’t find the thing you...

D&D General Forgotten Realms Book preview from NYCC

Most of which got reprinted / updated in the Baldur’s Gate: Descent into Avernus adventure. I’m not sure what more there is to add to all that. EDIT: I’ve always equates BG with London. It’s got the fog and the clear divides between upper and lower classes, etc. Also, my understanding was...

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

Most of the actors are Māori, though, including some current and former All Blacks. Also, you’re talking about real world peoples. Yes, Wakandans are fictional, but they’re fictional Africans. The peoples of Ansalon are entirely fictional. I won’t be upset if they make Tanis a red-haired white...

Right. Yeah, I'm not waiting for GRRM to ever finish.

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

Yes, possibly. I guess Bran first starts visiting the past in season 6. I thought it was later because it's not until season 8 that he reunites with Sam, who has also been able to confirm the truth via the Maesters' records in Oldtown, and one or the other of them tells Jon ...

D&D General What Are Dragonlance's Weis & Hickman, and Actor Manganiello Cooking Up?

That's a good point ... but isn't the flashback in the show presented as Bran "time traveling" into the past? GRRM could have done that in the book, too, and since I haven't read them, I wouldn't know!
