D&D 5E (2014) Monsters of Many Names - Wandering Monsters (Yugoloth!)

I'd prefer the 'loths in a Planescape-specific or planar MM to best serve the fan base who love them as they are. I just don't see why they should be on the slate for MM1. I appreciate supporting all levels and lorehounds out of the gate, but many, many more monsters deserve to come before these...

That sounds like it was an awesome campaign.

D&D 4E Campaign brainstorming 4e point of light setting

There is a great overview here which really helped me put thoughts together: http://rpg.wikia.com/wiki/Nentir_Vale and http://rpg.wikia.com/wiki/Fallcrest I can’t speak for your personal preference, but I think you definitely need strong NPCs and obvious political, economic, and military...

I ran my first Epic session last Sunday

After so many questions and too few answers regarding the dead ship, fused alien corpse, and strange telescopic device, the warlock decided to ask the cadaver some questions. She cast a necromantic ritual and reanimated the elephantine creature (making the necessary Arcana check to allow for...

Obscure Warlord power query - A Plan Comes Together

Hah, imagine it actually was dazed (no save)? I'd actually be okay with (save ends) on the dazed as there are many riders on modern solos which help mitigate save conditions, and elites, standards, and minions really should feel the wrath of a level 27 encounter power without remorse. Maybe...

    Dazed condition in racial power

Definitely overpowered, but I've done plenty of things over the course of the game that were overpowered and didn't ruin it. I'm wondering, with a little compromise, if you couldn't make it work. What about this? Look Into My Eyes Encounter * Gaze, Psionic Standard Action, Range 5...

I ran my first Epic session last Sunday

I encouraged checks for the alien corpse, the machine, and the ceiling strands. I wasn't willing to give the connections away, but their high rolls did earn them clues and suppositions as to what some of these things could do. That was enough to get their imaginations going and soon we had some...

Best 3rd Party and Homebrew classes

Dias Ex Machina's 4e material has a few really nice classes for futuristic settings which, I imagine, could be reskinned as unique fantasy class concepts.

pemerton , That's the beauty of running the game online via chatrooms. All of my players are writers at heart, and that takes a long enough delay between the typing, sending, and responding to allow a dedicated DM to juggle two or more rooms at the same time (plus private messaging with...

I ran my first Epic session last Sunday

Last we left, the party split. Our warlock, swordmage, and assassin followed the Confessor of Orcus through a portal and to a different part of the Siege. While I've locked down all teleportation and communication outside of the fortress, I've tried to sustain the value of many of their rituals...

    Character Builder Status

Yeah, this is puzzling. I don't see anything on the wizards forums or twitter regarding it.

    Character Builder Status

Oh there definitely has. Some good stuff, including hobgoblin and bladeling race write ups, a ton of racial options, etc. However it hasn't actually been updated since, I think, September 2012? Sept was rolled into Oct, then Nov, then Dec. I think so, anyway. It's all become so confusing. Then...

    Character Builder Status

Yeah, this looks official, in a forum post so vague that a twitter conversation had to clarify with one of those "Hey, wait, didn't I post this already?" moves, followed by "Oh, I must not have been clear enough...". Damn... I will miss the ease of the Compendium far more than the CB, which can...

[I should preface that my party and I play online, a combination of Maptool and mIRC for roleplaying. It is very helpful, especially in combats, tracking conditions, damage, and even just the names of NPCs and enemies. I can have more fun, especially with naming and characterizing monsters...

D&D 4E Best 4e adventure paths for a budding DM and noobish company

You could try HS1: The Slaying Stone, which is generally very well liked. It'll bring you to level 2. From there, I suggest Reavers of Harkenwold from the DM Kit, which will take you from level 2-4. You might have to squeeze an adventure from 4-5. Try your own or browse what's out there. I've...

    D&D 4E Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun - 4E style

Excellent play report. Would you mind linking or copy/pasting into this thread. I'm hoping we can turn it into a repository for Epic game play examples and DMing philosophy/styles.

Authors of the Book of Vile Darkness

I think just about anyone you'd consider as potentially having a hand writing this book would work. I'm in the process of compiling my own list, but curious what anyone else would add. I like the blight druid suggestion.
