D&D 5E (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

Oh, come on. I enjoy a little psionic flavor now and then, but age is no guarantor of authenticity. Otherwise it wouldn't be "authentic" D&D without racial level limits, gender based Strength penalties, and twelve types of historically dubious polearms.

D&D 5E (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

Every endgame type creature was psionic in 1e because psionics and magic weren't interoperable. You needed psionic defenses to counter psionic attacks. That meant a creature without the full psionic defensive suite could potentially be cheesed, and there was no way Gygax would let that fly. So...

D&D 5E (2024) 5e Aasimar are in the Players Handbook − what should the flavor be?

If you're going to have a non-human character, it should be part of their story. Visually they should be immediately identifiable as their species, with an emphasis on being both distinctive and easily cast as a compelling character. That might mean being badass, sexy, cute, intimidating, or...

    D&D 5E (2024) New D&D Edition's Player’s Handbook Cover Reveal

Really, it makes all the sense in the world for them to be there. The devs signaled their intent to add a celestial counterpart to tieflings for the Revised PHB all the way back at the start of the UA process. The Ardlings proved unpopular, and everyone just kind of assumed they gave up on the...

D&D 5E (2024) How Does Greyhawk Fit In To The New Edition?

Kids these days, the ones playing D&D at least, are still geeks. And geeks just love doing deep dives on history and lore, and learning all the hidden details and callbacks in a rich fictional setting. You don't have to nostalgia bait them to get them interested. You just have to dangle the...

D&D 5E (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

Let's also keep something clear. They're not making Greyhawk the default setting for the PHB. They're using it as a sample setting in the DMG to illustrate world building for DMs. The two are not the same. In the article we got this from, it talks about how the PHB having a setting appendix...

D&D 5E (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

More importantly, the 3e PHB divine pantheon definitely was. I don't know about anyone else, but those gods being in the PHB meant they were treated as a default for a lot of campaigns. I'd struggle to name three nations from Greyhawk without checking, yet I have a familiar attachment to Kord...

D&D 5E (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

D&D is, after all, still a geek hobby. There are a lot more people willing to identify as a geek now, you can fly your geek flag a lot more openly, but it's still a geek thing. And geeks love their history. There's a push and pull at work here. Old and out of touch is bad, but attempts at...

D&D 5E (2024) Greyhawk Confirmed. Tell Me Why.

Yeah, being concise is a selling point. And I really suspect this version of Greyhawk is going to be quietly updated to be a bit more cosmopolitan, a bit less 70's style dirty hovels and fantasy racism. I doubt it will be hard.

    D&D 5E (2024) New D&D Edition's Player’s Handbook Cover Reveal

An additional point someone raised on reddit about the second article. It quotes the number of feats being 75, while the playtest only had 64. And that's counting the Epic Boon feats, if those are removed there were only 48. So there's either a few new feats that weren't in the playtest, or a...

    D&D 5E (2024) New D&D Edition's Player’s Handbook Cover Reveal

It works for Star Wars. And Marvel and DC. And Transformers, and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and He-Man, and My Little Pony, and... Well, I think you get the idea.

    D&D 5E (2024) New D&D Edition's Player’s Handbook Cover Reveal

The digital Game Informer issue is also out, with a different article that drops some additional details. https://gameinformer.mydigitalpublication.com/publication/?m=10122&i=821673&p=18&ver=html5 From the sound of it, Aasimar are in the PHB. "The classic options like humans and elves ... are...

    D&D 5E (2024) New D&D Edition's Player’s Handbook Cover Reveal

Only a brief description: "the new alternate Player’s Handbook depicts a gorgeous scene of elves and a sinuous gold dragon, all printed in a gold foil treatment."

    D&D 5E (2024) New D&D Edition's Player’s Handbook Cover Reveal

FYI, reading the text of the linked article is worthwhile. They confirm a game store alternative cover for the PHB, although they don't show it, and name the characters on the standard PHB cover.

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

That was why I loved the 3e Warlock. It got to play around with some of the caster toys, but without the limited spell slot management minigame.

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

Just to remind folks, even if it's not for you, it's a good thing the Champion Fighter exists. There are people for whom that simplicity is necessary. I played with one. Great guy, but he didn't handle quick tactical decisions or math well. One campaign, he started as a Forge Cleric, but...

D&D 5E (2014) Why is There No Warlord Equivalent in 5E?

Indeed. It's like Eberron. Eberron was brand new in 3e, and precisely tailored to fit the edition like a glove. But it was so precisely tailored that as new editions have rolled out, with new mechanics and new features, Eberron is torn between having to revise large parts of the setting and...

    D&D 5E (2024) WotC Fireside Chat: Revised 2024 Player’s Handbook

I wouldn't say every 5e build will work, but it's very hard to mess up a single class character. It's only when you dabble in the dark arts of multiclassing, or making very specific combinations of non-core races with certain classes, that you run into problems.

D&D 5E (2014) Vecna: Eve of Ruin's Table of Contents Leaked (Spoilers!)

I would imagine the former. Not only does it allow for planning level appropriate encounters, but it fits the established function of the Rod of Seven Parts. Each piece points at the next connecting one, not all of them at once.

D&D General D&D "influencers" need to actively acknowledge other games.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. There will always be a big fish. The Network Effect demands it. You can plead with the big fish to be a good neighbor and not bully the smaller fish. You can advocate for a different fish to usurp the spot of big fish due to its superior fitness. But...
