I disagree as my experience was with seasoned wargamers who saw 4e as a wargame within an rpg.

It was more of tweaking the party to be in tune with each other and fight as a whole. Having played in multiple D&D Encounter sessions, I watched parties get schooled because they were not a cohesive fighting unit. I played on teams that were tuned/cohesive and they were much more successful...

I've always seen 4e as closing the loop - back to Chain Mail. 4e is a tactical set of combat rules. Players must be engaged, studying the map as the players have chances for interrupts and reactions. 4e (IMO) is not for the casual role player - designed more for a wargamer.

I saw a demo of the software at Gencon one year. I wasn't aware it was still around/when it went live. I knew it was buggy (what I saw at Gencon).

Made me the person I am today. Helped me get through a less than ideal home life growing up. I've made a lot of friends over the years (many who I still game/communicate with), helped shape my thought process, values, and goals in life.

I'm not aware of 5e having any mass combat rules. Just tweak as needed for the Battle System. Enjoy!

I always looked at this adventure as a "geopolitical" adventure. The PC need to build the refugee force and then move to liberate their homelands. For the mass combat, I used the old AD&D Battlesystem rules for combat. It's a fun adventure with lots of hooks for the PC to address.

Not sure what contractual obligations WotC had with the writer. Usually, the publisher has final say. With that said, I think WotC should have given a heads-up to the writer that content had been adjusted/dropped. A simple professional courtesy.
