A couple of unanswered questions about Season 4

hmm...spell caster material components may be an issue. How is diamond dust handled?

    DDAL Racism and DDAL4-1 [Spoilers]

How about when something is fictional, portrayed as fiction, completely written to be fictional and a PC sensitive reader decides to make a proxy connection where none exists? Why is it that a race of green skinned tusked creatures can be inherently evil but any form resembling human is...

    DDAL Racism and DDAL4-1 [Spoilers]

I find this incredibly divisive. A fantasy author (and publisher) has to defend the actions of a set of fictional characters and how they are portrayed because a PC culture takes offense. Somehow these characters simply can't be bad because they're protected by some real world proxy? last...

    DDAL Racism and DDAL4-1 [Spoilers]

But it seems like the "fantasy" Gur are "that" way. They are exactly a people that conduct business in that manner out of choice. It's not a stereotype. Are you implying that the "real" author in some way hates and desires to slander some real ethnicity? I see no references in this document...

What sort of character will you build for Curse of Strahd?

Finished last night - we had a great time. Last encounter was incredibly rough - the DM decided to restart the encounter after killing 2 players. He said milestone XP was not permitted via the recent season 4 document so we went into the last encounter all level 1. It was messy but restarting...

SPOILERS - Curse of Strahd Play Report

We spent the first 50 minutes of the adventure just taking items out of the house. The judge had the items turn to dust when they left the building; so we had someone holding the door open while there was a constant litany of items being thrown outside (including us). Everything possible on the...

Now That's a Can of Worms!

I think as it has been said before... "expect table variation"....I've personally experienced it both good and bad. It all comes down to the quality of the judge.

Check out the Season 4 Sneak Previews!

It's a nice Convention; nowhere near as crowded as Gencon but big enough to be "big". Both AL 5e and PFS events have been good there.

    Necromancy and AL

Hmm, I was not expecting that reply or that take. My personal view is to always adjust the adventure to accommodate the players, regardless of their play style; the judge supports them, all of them. For example: I ran table where the group had 2 casters that had worked previously together. One...

    Necromancy and AL

Interesting. So do you audit the players' sheets? Do you confirm that the judges that ran their games have valid DCI numbers? How do you know they just didn't make up a level whatever character? At WF the admins gave out favors - they were hand written on a photocopied cert. Do you consider...

    Necromancy and AL

Wow. A whole bunch of people just received griffons for their characters at Winter Fantasy. We were told food and a place to keep it would cost 5 DT at luxury per event played. If I'm at your table, is this a zero chance option?

    Necromancy and AL

I've seen judges at conventions do both...if the party is weaker or only 3 or 4 players, the undead are accepted. At more full tables, they tend to make clutter and by the end of the game, that player doesn't bother. expect your experience to vary....it's just grey.

D&D Adventurer's League vs. Pathfinder Society

C'mon Really? Comparing T1 combats to T2 and T3 for length of time.?? I played in the WF Epic and we had primarily a group of role players...I played one too, well, because that's what I wanted to play. We only finished 3 encounters and hand waved through the last one just to get our 2nd magic...

D&D Adventurer's League vs. Pathfinder Society

It has been my experience, especially with pick-up expedition play (at cons and game days), that if a group doesn't have 1 or 2 prime damage dealers, combats simply take too long. I've been at a few tier 2 games fighting giants with groups where you have a bard, a non archer rogue, a S&B...

D&D Adventurer's League vs. Pathfinder Society

correct...an archer that doesn't at least dip 2 levels of fighter and take sharpshooter is giving a lot of combat efficiency up. There's really no alternative. Its certainly harder to power game in 5e at a low level because you're already gifted some of the best options early, i.e. the archer...

D&D Adventurer's League vs. Pathfinder Society

PFS and 3.5 is hard to GM at higher level tables. It is a grind. Low level through maybe 7th, is quite entertaining. It's also fun to play as you have almost limit-less options and can build pretty much any concept. Rules creep is horrendous. I personally think 5e is growing the same way, just...

What sort of character will you build for Curse of Strahd?

My initial intent was that I was from Darkon (not Barovia) and recently stuck in Faerun (i.e. the Far tarveler background) and then pulled back into the mists because I shouldn't have been in Faerun anyway, just ending up in the wrong Realm. What happens at the end of the season in Barovia...

    D&D 5E (2014) Ravenloft= Meh

I've come to love Ravenloft not so much for the main villains but how the world revolves around them work. Essentially, you go to Barovia and the town pays homage to this BBEG. They follow him out of fear but they do so almost "willingly". How does the party work to overthrow the big baddie if...

[SPOILERS] Some thoughts on the Author Only mods from Winter Fantasy

Yep - Played in Alan's as well and it was incredible and very creepy / gooey. We wanted to explore more. Halruaa Rising and One Night in Luskan were equally we done. They left you wanting to play the next adventure. ...the best part for our weekend - was after banishing the leader of a thug...
