New Unearthed Arcana Released, With 8 New Forgotten Realms-Themed Subclasses

Had a quick look through and like others I'm not too keen on the purple dragon knight either. As a subclass, I think it's fine and I could see it being easily adapted to different orders of dragon riding knights, but as the class for the purple dragon knights, it just doesn't fit the history of...

I'd be keen to have a read of those rules, would you have a pdf that you would be fine linking?

Streaming services, which do you have or are you getting rid of?

I had netflix and disney+, stopped both when I was in the process of buying an apartment and haven't resubbed. Tvnz on demand has some decent stuff like others have mentioned. I often watch it on my PC and don't have to worry about ads due to adblockers.

What are you reading in 2025?

I've also recently installed the libby app and hooked into my local library, it's a lot better than I thought it would be. I have some dragonlance novels that I intend to read at some point soon.

D&D General [ART THREAD]Your Personal Favorite D&D Art For a Monster

I had to check some of his other art to make sure the signature was the same, but yes, yes it is. I don't think I ever realised. I quite like his artwork.

Presentation and Rules Are Different Things

Fully agree. After looking at OSE I went back and had a look at the original B/X presentation and, while not horrendous, is definitely not as well laid out.

    D&D 5E (2024) DMG 2024: The Planes

Sort of a moot point since I'm not planning on buying 5.5, but I'm also in the camp where I prefer related groups of monsters to be grouped together. If I'm doing an adventure where I'm running a lot of devils I want to be able to find them quickly and I find it more convenient for their entries...

    D&D 5E (2014) 4E Cosmology

Yep, a lot of world building is the pet project of the DM. I think the only planes my players have only interacted with were the shadowfell and feywild, and their exact layout in the grand scheme of things didn't really matter.

D&D General [ART THREAD]Your Personal Favorite D&D Art For a Monster

I've been flipping through my old 3e books and saw this image of Mephistopheles, it's one of my favourite images of him as I find it is the exemplar for the scheming devil archetype.

    D&D 5E (2014) 4E Cosmology

Out of interest, I know some people have already mentioned it, but what cosmology (if any) are people using in their home games? Mine is fairly simple and mirrors 4e in a lot of ways: At the top is Godsheim, the home of the gods and the various celestials. Below them is the material plane...

    D&D 3.x Still playing 3e? Share your 3.0 and/or 3.5 house rules

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I'll likely just use orcs and goblins and various NPCs as is in most cases, but when I need a gnoll fire brand (from my homebrew setting, they set themselves alight in magical flame when in battle, exploding in a ball of fire when they die) I'm going to need to make...

    D&D 3.x Still playing 3e? Share your 3.0 and/or 3.5 house rules

If I run it, I'm tempted to limit it to just the PHB (might include the FR campaign book if I set things there) and not worrying about prestige classes, at least initially. I do have all of the 3.0 class books (tome and blood, the other ones) so I could include those, but they'll show all of...

Haha, I went to find the thread title you were talking about and my immediate thought was "What does he mean, that is the thread title".

Maybe it could be a fortitude save each time you'd be affected rather than a specialised die roll using the same DC as is needed to remove a negative level. That way it uses a current mechanic and scales with the power of the undead creature.

    D&D 3.x Still playing 3e? Share your 3.0 and/or 3.5 house rules

Something else I've been thinking of doing, for all old-school wizards not just 3e, is allowing arcane spellcasters who prepare spells to simply refresh those spells each morning after a rest without need of a spellbook. They still need their spellbook to prepare spells and if they want to cast...

    D&D 3.x Still playing 3e? Share your 3.0 and/or 3.5 house rules

I'd be keeping the skill list and number of skill points, just changing how skill points are spent (though I'd be tempted to give fighters and rangers some more skill points). Prestige classes are what really get affected, though I guess you could say that skill points + class bonus for the...

    D&D 3.x Still playing 3e? Share your 3.0 and/or 3.5 house rules

You share coffee? Insanity! I've been looking through my old 3e books and, if I run a game, I'm considering using the skill point system of pathfinder. Cross class skills cost 1 point and class skills get a +3 class bonus. Also, INT increases that increase your modifier are retroactive. I've...

    D&D 5E (2014) 4E Cosmology

Sounds to me that they just don't want DMs to be constrained by the "official" lore, but those statements are still there, you can use them as the official layout of the planes and the way things work.
