WotC Hasbro CEO Chris Cox talks about D&D on NPRs Here & Now. Topics include Layoffs and OGL.

I didn’t think he had a great answer at all to the “how can you receive a huge bonus when 20% of your employees were laid off” question.

They did, but at least the questions themselves were reasonably tough.

D&D 5E (2014) GM: Who Do You Target? [READ OP BEFORE VOTING]

I probably take out the cleric. At this point, the BBEG is hoping to escape, and doesn't want the party pursuing, and REALLY doesn't want them pursuing with all 4 members.

    D&D 5E (2014) Rank your favorite D&D classes

Bard Rogue Warlock Paladin Fighter Ranger Wizard Artificer Cleric Sorcerer Druid Monk Barbarian Note: I don't actually dislike any of them. Subclass matters a lot for Rogue, Fighter, Monk, and Druid.

D&D 5E (2014) Free 'Descent into the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth' Adventure on D&D Beyond

It's very unlikely that most groups would comprehensively explore the whole place. You're pretty much just trying to find the entrance to the lower level.

D&D 5E (2014) Free 'Descent into the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth' Adventure on D&D Beyond

It seems like a very fun old-school tier 2 adventure. I have the old 1E version and this is largely an improvement on it. I also like the tournament scoring rules! A lot of combat and a lot of traps. It's a total dungeon crawl, but there's some cool environmental stuff and fun areas. The...

D&D General No More Baldur's Gate From Larion: Team Is 'Elated'

It's shocking how great Solasta would be if they would JUST hire a couple of good writers. Because they're nailing so many of the other elements. But I have no idea if they ever will address that problem. The Lost Valley DLC, incidentally, is actually much worse than the original campaign.

D&D General No More Baldur's Gate From Larion: Team Is 'Elated'

I would love to see the now-indy-again Harebrained Schemes (Shadowrun, Battletech) make a D&D game. I also would love to see a D&D CRPG that has nothing to do with the Baldur's Gate series.

D&D General No More Baldur's Gate From Larion: Team Is 'Elated'

My take: - While it's certainly plausible that Larian is walking away from D&D because of something stupid/greedy that WotC did, that's not necessarily true. Larian is a private company, and Vinke has a history of doing what he wants to do - and also, while profit is important to him, that's...

D&D General 50th Anniversary- Are You Not Entertained?

I agree with a lot of what's going on there, but there are some strained points: - WotC never claimed they "had 50M players". They said ~50M people had played D&D at some point since the game was created. - Critical Role has serious problems and is in decline, but I actually don't think that...

D&D General 50th Anniversary- Are You Not Entertained?

I actually didn't take that away from that at all. In fact, I think Tsojcanth will be the only one with tournament scoring.

They do break it down in recent years. M:TG is more profitable than D&D, but D&D has also been consistently profitable.

I totally agree. "DMing is easier when there are more rules" is certainly a take, but not one that I think is borne out at all. I'm also not sure that "running pre-written campaign books is easier than making up your own adventures" is always actually true, either.

Do you have a source for that? I don't doubt that they feared a lawsuit, but my sense is that the PR disaster in itself was a huge factor as well, particularly so close to the release of the movie. They had to go silent on social media for two weeks during a period when they had both the movie...
