D&D 5E (2024) Table of Contents for Dungeon Masters Guide Leaked

Just checked my 2014 DMG and you are probably right. 2024 does seem to have more pages but the text size is probably larger and probably more art which would account for the higher page count. It would be cool if there was a little 'mini-gazetteer' for each of the major campaign settings but...

D&D 5E (2024) Table of Contents for Dungeon Masters Guide Leaked

So the "Tour of the Multiverse" section is 32 pages long? That's much more than I expected, happily surprised about that.

D&D 5E (2024) Another new interview with Perkins & Wyatt about the 2024 DMG

Seems to be mostly reiterating things that have been said in previous recent interviews. Perkins does mention that according to their feedback over half of current D&D players have never played any of the editions besides 5E.

What are you reading in 2024?

Currently reading William Gibson's All Tomorrow's Parties. So far I'm enjoying it more than the previous two books in the trilogy.

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

The fragile/untrusting relationship between the humans of the region and the various demihuman populations nearby (not just the wood elves) was going to be one of the themes of the campaign. I was planning a series of adventures where the players could slowly help to rebuild trust and...

    D&D 5E (2024) Sword Coast population data from 2024 D&D Pocket Expert

I did check the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide and it doesn't mention many numbers although it does say that Baldur's Gate is "home to tens of thousands". From that to well over a hundred thousand is quite a big change.

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

Many wood elves are rangers and can speak with animals. When the players killed one of the animals the others scattered into the woods. I had told the players that there was a flock of birds and deer grazing. I can imagine word of what had happened would get back to the elves from the animals...

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

I was not trying to manipulate anyone. I was worried that the players playing the druid and the life cleric would be upset by the actions of the player playing the wizard. I assumed (wrongly) that someone who plays a druid would be an animal lover and would not morally approve of unnecessary...

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

It was the first session of a continuing game. Although that particular player did not attend any of the subsequent sessions.

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

He said his character was a noble and a wizard. Didn't mention anything specific about his personality apart from he was an adventurer seeking fame and fortune.

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

No I didn't know him well. And truly, I know lots of people enjoy the combat side of D&D and I had prepared some encounters accordingly. It was made very clear in the introduction that these brigands were ruthless and were not going to go down easily, it was going to be a serious battle. And the...

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

Well I honestly do want to engage my players in entertaining adventures. And I do want my players to be able to make their own choices and do things their own way within the adventure. But I just feel that your character should be doing this in a way that makes sense. I mean these are often life...

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

The wizard seemed to be in his twenties, not sure of his exact age. The players didn't seem to mind that evil alignments were banned (if they did they didn't mention it to me). I didn't react in a bad or upset way. I simply wanted to know why the characters wanted to do what they were doing. I...

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

I don't know what was going on in their heads. When I am a player and one of my fellow party members wants to do something like that, I just say "Hold on, what are we trying to achieve here? What are the ramifications of our characters doing that? Why would our characters want to do that?" Not...

I had specifically told them that their characters could not have evil alignments.

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

Well to be honest I just didn't understand what is fun about killing a non-threatening animal for no reason? And why the characters would want to that? I mean if the players were bored then there were things they could do to make something happen that would still be logical in-game. For...

Dungeons & Dragons Has Done Away With the Adventuring Day

Here is an IRL example from a session that I DMed a while back. The party was hired by townspeople to slay some brigands that had been causing trouble and were hiding out in a nearby forest. The party consisted of a wizard, a rogue, a life domain cleric and a circle-of-the-moon druid. These...
