Its why the "shouting a hand back on" was such BS back in 4E. You don't lose a hand from HP loss as is. HP loss is nothing that a night's sleep wont fix.
I strongly feel 5E multiclassing should have been only with feats. The magic initiate should have had follow up feats granting higher level slots and other features.
When do we get to be in the interesting experimental phase of 5E design rather than Malibu wizard with a new hat?
Incarnum was released 5 years into 3rd edition. Tome of Battle, Tome of Battle was released 6 years in.
We're ELEVEN YEARS into 5th, and it's the same design that are minor...
Unfortunately due to their focus testing metrics, a vocal few apparently can deny any innovation. Here's another bland 9 level spellcaster slop class that will offend no one and delight no one.
The fact that its psionics alone means you have about a 20% disapproval rating no matter WHAT it is...
Same. The mystic had real potential, but they didnt want it because it was actual work to design something rather than slapping a full caster.
Actually at this point I want at least ONE class to go back to actual vancian. IE, you have 2 magic missiles, 1 sleep, 1 mage armor prepared.
But...
Even then its crap when Silvery Barbs exists. Admittedly it is too good (I limit it to 1/creature per short rest to avoid spamming it on bosses) but that forces a reroll with no save, gives advantage, and auto succeeds.
I would have it add a penalty to someone who failed an attack, save, or...
Not that poster but the loss of healing, punitive nature of melee vs ranged (which is favored enough), punishing martial characters who trade blows more than casters, altering a fundamental part of the class power budget... the list goes on.
I suspect you're going to be bored with this in about two fights, once they have the order of operations down. If you don't like 5E combat as is, forced weapon swaps arent going to add much spice.
I have a feeling that variety you crave by enforcing weapon swaps is going to be played out by the third battle and you'll just be seeking something new and different by the fourth and will need a new monkey wrench.
My advice is stop trying to enforce your particular vision on everyone at the...
In general, I'm personally tired of the negativity that has infused online discourse. It takes little courage or effort to say something sucks, is overrated, or someone is a hack, so I tend to push back. I get a sense that negative views are often expressed in a condescending way, that someone...
You're free to express your uninformed opinions. We're free to value it less than others who have experience and less of an obvious grudge.
Hell man, you're already looking for some angle to complain about the mere suggestion that kids DM round robin. Clearly an insidious plot to erode the...
Exactly. The legacy content is there to get some sales out of the old timers, but maybe also spark them to take up the game with their kids, or at least share some old war stories with them.
When you say all opinions are equally valid, this is where I push back. Ignorance does not equal someone's actual experience, particularly just because it matches their bias.
Because it creates a sense of progress. You start unable to carry a ton of crap, now you can. Just like going from lanterns to a continual light stone in 2nd edition.
The entire game is set up to have magic handwave nuisance rules, and has been since the beginning.
It isnt a WOTC IP, but I think He-Man/MOTU in 5E could be fun. Go full Barrier Peaks with sword and sorcery, lasers and loincloths.
Most IP blends are just cash grabs (hi Monopoly!), but I really liked Betrayal at Baldur's Gate.
