    D&D 5E (2024) Bard DON"T Suck. Tier List.

It's only worse than a swords bard if you're trying to run a solo adventurer. The swords bard is I think the most solipsistic self-buffer of any bard subclass, deliberately spending their bardic inspiration on their own attacls. Meanwhile the dance bard is a team buffer and after level 6 is...

    D&D 5E (2024) Bard DON"T Suck. Tier List.

Three extra attacks per long rest at level 3 and four at level 4 is non-trivial. Three or four attacks per short rest pretty good from when you get Font of Inspiration at level 5. And remember you also get the unarmoured defence at the same level. Remember that you can also make an attack as...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

DMs already have a lot of power even under the most consensus models. I'm just suggesting that with power comes responsibility.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

Believe it or not 0.1% of the entire population is not any sort of statistical threshold. If we assume the playerbase to be uniform I'm waaaay past a 99% threshold for it being just luck. Which means that either the local environment is very different (which is possible) or that skill matters...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

Agreed. But I believe that there can be rules (such as classic Paladin Falling rules) that encourage toxic behaviour. And these should be weeded out ruthlessly. Also agreed.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

And if I run regular open tables and pickup groups currently in three different clubs where I'm the only common member and with new DMs and don't get these problems at what point does it cease to be luck? I don't believe myself to be that consistently lucky. Given this I have only two...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

This in my experience is simply false. Toxic people will be toxic, granted. But toxic players who aren't otherwise toxic people? That comes either from a clash of the player with the game (until recently I was running for two groups which had only two players between them I might consider...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

As I say I have regularly run and played at open tables. They are not a significant problem in my experience and the ones I have seen that are reactions to toxic DMing (or young teenagers). That group fun isn't the goal and that all powerful DMs are a good thing. Find? I've regularly managed...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

Believe it or not as an experienced DM who has regularly run open tables and occasionally thrown out players I can tell the difference between the DM cleaning up a mess and the DM making the mess. Both happen. But supercharging DM authority beyond first among equals does a lot to encourage the...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

Nope. I am saying first that what you are proposing in terms of DM power makes toxic DMs more toxic so they are emphatically not a separate consideration. Encouraging DMs to be more toxic makes the overall ecosystem worse and is not a separate problem. And the only "tyrrany of fun" players I've...

D&D 5E (2024) Experienced DMs, how useful is the 2024 DMG to you?

Who said it did? Without going into details there are numerous people in this thread I regularly disagree with. But one has gone back onto my ignore list as a consequence of the thread itself.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

As I have said repeatedly I have seen about as many terrible DMs as terrible players. And, like most people, I've played with roughly an order of magnitude more players than I have DMs. And the reality is that the terrible DMs are attracted by and cling onto with both hands the idea that the DM...

D&D 5E (2024) What does the new DMG say about gods?

Those are exactly the same people who try to trash the place and are shocked, shocked when the guards are called. If you're a visible heretic that's a matter for the church to deal with just as if you're a visible thief that's for the guard.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Player's Handbook Reviews

There ain't no rules that can cure horrible people. But my experience is that there are rules that can make DMs acting in good faith into behaving like horrible people.

D&D 5E (2024) Experienced DMs, how useful is the 2024 DMG to you?

Which games do you think do similar things to Apocalypse World itself and try to e.g. run domain management rules plus gang control rules off a relatively light ruleset with success with consequences mechanics? For that matter which systems run long spell lists without exception based design...

D&D 5E (2024) Experienced DMs, how useful is the 2024 DMG to you?

I really can't agree here after the 2010s and the long list of Powered By The Apocalypse systems. Which are absolutely exception based and tend to be fairly small. DM's books are a D&D thing so far as I can tell.

D&D 5E (2024) Experienced DMs, how useful is the 2024 DMG to you?

That's the main point of the DMG, no? To teach people how to DM from the basics?

D&D General The Greyhawk Pantheon: How Greyhawk Approaches Deities (& Demigods)

Looking at that list I see a lot - and I see a huge swathe of gaps. There seem to only be deities for adventurers there and not e.g. a Goddess of Hearth & Home or one of Harvest. The sort that most people would pray to for everyday things. In the Nentir Vale (which is very like a 2000s update of...

D&D 5E (2024) Experienced DMs, how useful is the 2024 DMG to you?

I doubt many will run in Greyhawk, but some will. And what I consider it to be is a "worked example" of a homebrew setting and tying adventures to your setting.
