Wizards of the Coast's Archetype Entertainment to Publish Exodus TTRPG Based on Upcoming Exodus Video Game

Just got the link for the preorder, so it's starting to roll out. Shipping to Canada costs almost as much as the book...

Freebies, Sales, and Charity Bundles for Decembet 8, 2024

I've really missed this article. Welcome back and all the best for your recovery!

RPG Crowdfunding News – Ars Magica, Trail of Cthulhu, ElfQuest, and more

Oof, there's been too many good crowdfunding campaigns lately. I haven't recovered from Kobold Press's Planescape Labyrinth campaign, Ars Magica this week, and Monte Cook's Darkest Woods next week. I hope everyone is finding something to love!

WotC D&D's Christopher Perkins Promoted to Creative Director

I hope the omission of video games is one of brevity in the blurb and not intent from WotC... This one area I agree the D&D brand is undermonetized--I have money and I will gladly throw it at good games like Baldur's Gate 3! The impression I got from Sven is part of why Larian wasn't interested...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player’s Handbook is ‘Fastest Selling D&D Book Ever’

There's less of a console exclusivity thing going on with Nintendo these days, so you have a lot of Sony or Microsoft players buying Nintendo consoles as well. You can add ~100 million Wii sales or >150 million Switch to the Microsoft + Sony numbers and overestimate the market size or add less...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player’s Handbook is ‘Fastest Selling D&D Book Ever’

To clarify, WotC is making no such claims. I wish I could find the quote, but Phil Spencer of Microsoft has had estimated the size of the console industry as A) 200-300 million consoles, and B) essentially static between generations. If you grab the sales data off Wikipedia, the rough estimate...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player’s Handbook is ‘Fastest Selling D&D Book Ever’

I wonder I this is my fault? I preordered three copies, returned both online orders because they were damaged, and kept the copy from a FLGS.

D&D General D&D Player's Handbook PayPal Orders Suffer Processing Issues

Ha. I've had the exact opposite experience. Amazon doesn't ship a single D&D product I preorder, I spend hours with customer support for them to tell my order is with the wrong distribution centre, and they can't change the distribution centre so I need to cancel my preorder, and reorder the...

Discworld TTRPG Kickstarter to Launch October 15

October 15th alone is going to be an expensive day for Wizard TTRPG campaigns, apparently Ars Magica is launching on the same day as this!

RPG Crowdfunding News – The City of Arches, 7th Sea, Kedamono Opera, and more

I didn't think I needed City of Arches, I've got piles of Planescape 2e PDFs and a heavy hardcover of Ptolus that I'll probably never run. The sample really changed my mind, this looks like a really great campaign source book.

Traveller Creator Marc Miller Passes Ownership To Mongoose

I thought it was amazing how the rights to Traveller reverted back to Marc Miller after GDW folded. Glad to see the transition to Mongoose appears to be just as peaceful. I never got to play classic Traveller, but Mongoose has been a good custodian of the licence so I hope this is a good start...

Magpie Games Announces Fallen London: The Roleplaying Game

I'm excited by this game, but I hope this doesn't translate into yet another PbtA-style game. Nothing wrong with that, except that it's pretty hard to make a product better than Blades in the Dark, and this sounds like Blades in the Dark...

Hidden Treasure from The Making of Original Dungeons & Dragons

I've been meaning to ask if any non-Americans have been having issues with Amazon and D&D books. My Amazon.ca copy is pending and unshipped, even though the store page says it's in stock? I haven't had any success with any WotC preorders since Random House stopped distributing their books.

PaizoCon 2024 Announcements and Product Reveals

The backer kit mentions Darkmoon Vale, but I don't know Golarion well enough. Possibly the Crown of the Kobold King being adapted? I really love the PACG, so I might back PFQ. Scratches a similar itch, hopefully.

Paizo Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous DLC Release Date Announced

The epilogue patched in to BG3 was so satisfying compared to the less than adequate initial ending. While Wrath of the Righteous has a pretty good stock ending, I'm pretty excited to see how this turns out.

Para Bellum Consulting Purchases James M. Ward’s Metamorphosis Alpha

Interesting! I just picked up a copy of Metamorphosis Alpha 1e and some of the supplements this week and I'm tempted to run it. Great to see it still getting support. For what it's worth, Chris Clark is listed under "Heroes of the Warden" in the 2020 Doom on the Warden adventure. And he...

D&D General No More Baldur's Gate From Larion: Team Is 'Elated'

Yeah, that's the key. I'm not trying to convince anyone of the glory of Hasbro, just that they do have some talented people there, whatever the corporate overlords are up to. Karpyshyn was definitely mostly a writer, but he was one of the key writers for BG2 and lead for Mass Effect 1 and 2...

D&D General No More Baldur's Gate From Larion: Team Is 'Elated'

Archetype Entertainment is a fully owned subsidiary of WotC, founded by BioWare veterans James Ohlen and Drew Karpyshyn, of the Baldur's Gate 2 fame. I can't find stats on how big they are, but they have Certain Affinity as co-developer, so that's 250+ people working on their first title. So at...

D&D General No More Baldur's Gate From Larion: Team Is 'Elated'

I'm not as upset by this as I should be... I love BG3, but it didn't really feel like a sequel to BG1 or 2. While I'd love an old school expansion pack, I'd be happy to see a new Neverwinter or Waterdeep or Luscan set game and not try to tie things to the Bhaalspawn saga for marketing reasons...
