I pronounce them mirror, squirrel, horror, Graham, and Craig.

We are, sadly, famously xenophobic when it comes to languages. Or even non-British dialects of English. It’s not a great trait. But we can pronounce mirror, squirrel, horror, Graham, and Craig, without saying “meer”, “squirl”, “whore” (I mean WFT, guys?!? Why would you do that?!?), Gram, and...

Doctor Who… Xmas Special in 2026

They ‘financed’ them in the sense that they paid handsomely for a distribution deal which was used to bolster the show’s budget. The BBC is not in the habit of selling its IP. “BBC sells important cultural IP to American corporation” would be bigger than Brexit.

I’m just amused by Americans using the word “wanker”. It’s so weird!

Doctor Who… Xmas Special in 2026

What makes you think the BBC has not retained the ability to license its own IP out? It has full ownership of the material; Disney just had a distribution agreement.

New Unearthed Arcana Brings Back Five Subclasses

Warrior of Intoxication Monk (formerly Way of the Drunken Master)… man, poetry is dead! Who named it that?

Or a massive marketing budget. Either/or. Or both!

The problem is that 99% of the time it isn't criticism, it is a statement of preference couched as objective fact--often because folks can have blinkers when it comes to matters of taste. And that riles peoples' goats. Umm. Is "riles peoples' goats" a thing?

The sad part is that reach and marketing are far more important than quality when it comes to sales. You can make the best thing in the world, but if nobody knows about you can't sell it (and vice versa). I was very lucky that my little publishing company got a reach boost from being associated...

D&D General WotC is at it again

As I've said a million times, ideas are easy. I'll have 50 ideas down the pub tonight. Ooops, I think I just had a little impromptu idea just now! Ooh, and another! Exactly. Ideas are easy. Work is hard.

D&D General WotC is at it again

And, indeed, the fact that this thread immediately turned into "WotC is stealing our stuff!" perfectly illustrates why such terms are needed. Because WotC hasn't stolen your (general you) stuff.

Sure. But... they don't want your forum posts. Honestly, your forum posts are not worth anything. They're just covering their asses in case they make something and 12 people say "they stole my idea!" (as has ironically already happened in this thread). But that's been said a billion times, so...

    Million Dollar TTRPG Kickstarter Club

It's currently trending towards about 900K, so they'll need a bit of a boost to make the 1M.

    I made a terrible life decision…

To me, it's a collection. Much like some people collect stamps or rocks or Funko Pops, I collect books and games. So the 'library' is a goal unto itself. There are much bigger collections out there, of course, but I do enjoy mine. I like working in my office surrounded by shelves of my books.

That's basically so if they move platform in a few years, they can move the user content too; or if they are acquired, or sell the platform to somebody, they can legally transfer the content. Otherwise they'd have to delete it all--and guess what? People are historically very unhappy when all...

D&D General WotC is at it again

Yes (though they don't want it), but the important bit is that they can't stop you using your content, because you still own it. That's the difference between a license and ownership, and why it's important to distinguish between the them. They're different things, with different effects.

D&D General WotC is at it again

I've heard half a dozen people say the same thing. Did you copy their work? Should they sue you? (No of course you didn't; but it turns out the concept isn't particularly unique and precisely illustrates why terms like this exist).
