Trying to build an archive of responses from The Sage

Hey, that's exactly the opposite of what he told me about a year ago!:D

I need your recommendations for Prestige Classes

I agree. Plus, the keen rapier w/Improved Crit (mentioned earlier)is not that big of a deal for someone who shouldn't have a very high strength (see post above for WHY). IMO, the duelist is better off not wasting a feat on Improved Crit and the money on keen, and just getting bonus damage...

I need your recommendations for Prestige Classes

Sounds like the Temple Raider of Olidammara would fit perfectly, since you are going through RttToEE. I'm using it, and it's really fun.

    Adamantine weapons?

    2. Because they are nearly impossible to sunder and the natural enhancement bonus works in antimagic fields. Also, they are just plain cool.:D

    Best Spell to Maximize

The Incantatrix gets much higher than that, but I'm not sure how high. Perhaps someone else can remember the exact level of brokeness of this PrC? I'm thinking around +20 or so. SO, if your DM is crazy enough to allow it, an Incantatrix casting an empowered, maximized buff spell is downright...

Who is better DAMAGE MACHINE a Fighter or a Barbarian or a Rogue?

Just curious if you took the ring of blinking into account. 50% of the monk/fighter/ranger's attack should be missing automatically.

Who is better DAMAGE MACHINE a Fighter or a Barbarian or a Rogue?

You could just use core rules if using the supplements bothers you. Notice, that I said these items were in Magic of Faerun.

Mithral bucklers: A Bard's/Rogue's/Sorcerer's/Wizard's best friend...

I concur. For example, Animated shields are perfect for TWFing rogues/fighters or anyone who needs to use both hands in combat. Caliban's idea is a good one, though expensive.

Who is better DAMAGE MACHINE a Fighter or a Barbarian or a Rogue?

Don't forget the Fanged Mask from MoF that gives you a bite attack for that extra sneak attack damage. Then, Improved TWF in another 4 levels or so. Actually, there's another magic item from MoF...some gloves that give you Improved TWF if you already have TWF. So, in a high magic campain, you...

    Pulling out someone elses weapon.

Normally, entering someone's square draws a movement related AoO right? Plus, making a touch attack on their weapon would draw a AoO like grappling right? But, if they fail to even notice you...

    Pulling out someone elses weapon.

Why not use Quicker than the Eye, then pickpocket? Then, you don't have to worry about AoO's or anything...just reach in and pull it out. I guess you'd still need to be hasted to pull it off in one round though...or quickdraw. They won't even notice you took their own weapon until they feel...

    Please rate Dual Strike

Right, I meant to say at higher levels, after stuff like you mentioned has been taken. As I said, it is likely the rogue already has the prerequisites by 12th level or so. A rogue/fighter is an even better example. To say never is a bit too extreme in this case imo.

    Please rate Dual Strike

Never? How about 2 rogues who already took Combat Reflexes in order to take Expert Tactician? This would be the greatest use for the feat I think. Or 2 fighters who get bookoos of feats? Or one rogue and one fighter? +2 for a fighter isn't that big of a deal, but for rogues...different...

    Quicker than the Eye, Unbalanced?

Sure why not? It's not disallowed by the rules. If you read the bluff skill, all it says is that the foe must be aware of you. It never mentions you having to be engaged in melee.

    Rogue/Barbarian sneak attack while raging?

Re: Re: The Sage Well, I did say, FWIW.:D I happen to agree with the Sage, and not because I have the preconceived notions you prescribe to those who disagree with your conceived notions. I also don't find sneak attack unbalancing. I view SA as more than just knowledge of vital areas. Even...

    Quicker than the Eye, Unbalanced?

Re: Quicker then the Eye Please read my last post. This feat is only useless against enemies immune to sneak attacks, if they are also immune to bluff attempts (plant creatures, for example). You can do MUCH more than attack with this feat.

How many of you use the Identify material component?

I think Identifying items is one of the worst thought out rules of 3E. 8 hours to cast a spell is absurd. As written, you could conceivably spend half the campaign running around figuring out how magic items work or waiting for the wizard to memorize Identify the next day just so you can find...

    Rogue/Barbarian sneak attack while raging?

The Sage FWIW, the Sage told me in an email that you can't sneak attack while raging. I long ago deleted it, so I can't reprint it now.

    Quicker than the Eye, Unbalanced?

FWIW, the email posted above from the Sage was mine. This feat does not make you invisible, so you can't hide in plain sight. BUT, you could move away from melee and hide if there was a suitable hiding place. IIRC, you can move half of your speed and hide as a move-equivalent action. If any...

+5 Adamantine Armor Spikes of Defending

Um, that's what I said. My question, which may not have been clear, was brought on by his statement, "If you don't want to attack it's OK, but you still get the off-hand penalty". I thought he was implying that just by holding an offhand weapon (and never using it, say as an attack...
