mark, i did see that, and with my birthday this month... i should be able to start running a 'hackmaster' game in just a few weeks. thanks again!

    The Mythos

to say derleth was 'one of the worst' is both unfair and arguably false. derleth was never a 'bad' writer, he just brought moralism into the mix which muddled it completely. his solar pons stuff, and his ghostly fiction, is where his strengths lay, but his lovecraft pastiche was never really...

    The Mythos

novels are a tricky bet, outside of campbell, wilson, klein's 'the ceremonies,' and william browning spencer. short fiction works better and i reccomend any clark ashton smith, r.e. howard, jeffrey thomas, caitlin r. keirnan, and ligotti. avoid the chaosium collections like the plague. as the...

    Take the HackMaster Challenge

mine arrive yesterday, and my partner and i spent some time going through it together and decided that we're picking up the player's guide next week. it's utterly absurd, but in wonderful ways. (also, a note on the complaints about the $7.00 shipping fee... the shipping label on my copy read...

I would Lose my Shirt if I got out of D&D!

i'm just as much a collector as i am a player, so i can't really see myself just unloading it all (barring some incredibly unfortunate circumstance where i simply absolutely needed the cash.) my mind is still reeling, however, over the concept of getting 80 issues of 'dragon' for $1.50. (also...

Staples refuses to print my PDFs....

it's not really that simple though, especially since at the nearest staples, not a single employee seems to be aware of the same set of policies. hell, i once had a kinko's employee tell me i couldn't photocopy something i created in the store, while they were watching me, because it was somehow...

    Spelljammer...just wow

'If an ounce of the art direction and flavor they later gave Planescape had been applied to Spelljammer, it probably would have done a lot better.' ayup. i've always loved it, personally.

    skyrealms of jorune... any good?

i still remember seeing ads for 'skyrealms of jorune' in various old issues of 'dragon' as a child, and recently seeing them again in the same issues that i managed to hunt down and add to my collection. it always seemed interesting, but i never knew of anyone that actually owned it or had even...

30 Years of Weird - Strangest Campaigns Ever

one of the strangest games i was involved with began as a 'buck rogers: xxvc' game that ended up in ravenloft. another one was a 'call of cthulhu' game in which the party was transported through time to zothique.

Just picked up RIFTs for the first time since 1993 ...

i have fond memories of the 'teenage mutant ninja turtles,' 'after the bomb,' and 'beyond the supernatural' games but rifts never did it for me. and it's a collector's nightmare.

sounds quite interesting. maybe i'll pick this one up, soon.

third party adventure modules. what's worth buying?

that's two votes for the 'hackmaster' stuff, which surprises me a bit. i'd always ignored them due to just how incredibly goofy the cover art and back text are. i'll look into them, though. 'I suggest going back and looking at what the previous 30 years of RPGs offers. There are more excellent...

third party adventure modules. what's worth buying?

i've been impressed with the stuff from goodman games, so far but i'm curious as to what's out there that's worth looking into for a dm and collector. any suggestions? (printed only, please.)

Why I don't support my LGS

the closest gaming store to me is run by a fellow who likes to regale everyone that enters with his ever so clever racist, sexist, and homophobic 'jokes.' needless to say, i haven't spent a penny there in years.

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder's Goblins

they definitely do remind me of warhammer goblins in all the right ways, and i must admit i am looking forward to 'pathfinder.'
