    Get pedantic on Feeblemind

Against my better judgment, I am re-entering this discussion just to make a point. If you truly believe this, then I think you should reread the Spell: Imprisonment. That's an instantaneous spell that quite clearly has a magical affect still in place and very much has a restricted list of...

    Help with Awakened Gorilla Monk

I was more referring to a game where the players might start at 10th level, or he might join a campaign at 9th level, or 12th level or the like. Otherwise, I agree with you.

    Help with Awakened Gorilla Monk

Disclaimer: This is probably not the advice you are looking for... Flesh out the concept some more, get some of it down on paper...then sit it aside in a notebook you save just for these ideas. Come up with another character concept that will work for this game. Eventually, when the stars...

    Giant Crayfish? Great...now I'm hungry. Thanks! ;)

What do I do now? - A new but related situation

I'm sure that my opinion has a lot to do with the fact that some of the best games I've ever played in didn't have each character on equal footing. Now, certainly most of our games have featured characters that were on equal footing. However, some of the best had character(s) that were...

    D&D 3.x Using 3.0 Spell Durations with 3.5 Spells

If I am restricting access to Magic Items...I use 3.0 Durations. When I say restricted access, it basically means you can only purchase scrolls, potions and wands. Players can still use Item Creation Feats themselves though. But with the players relying on what they can find and what they...

Should Prestige Classes be more powerful than Base Classes?

After thinking about this some more. I guess that the "power level" doesn't matter to me that much as long as everything is reasonably balanced. More so than balance, I feel a PrC should focus on doing something that you cannot do as efficiently or as capably as with base classes. There...

What do I do now? - A new but related situation

I really like my players to come up with new, weird, interesting concepts. If they come up with one that I want to run with...then I let them run with it. I'm afraid of the precedent I might set by allowing one of those interesting concepts, then taking it away when someone complains. Maybe...

What do I do now? - A new but related situation

I understand your points...and perhaps I was unclear. It doesn't have to be your idea, to be something that you want to try...something your anxious to experiment with. It sounds like a difficult concept for the Player and the GM. Now, if I'm wrong, and you were reluctant to do it all along...

Do you care if it is a premade adventure?

I agree with Crothian, but would add that it totally depends on my DMs strengths. I'd prefer to see him stick mostly to what his strength is. But either way, I expect a mix of the other...maybe 70/30.

What do I do now? - A new but related situation

Once I decide that a PCs character is going to work a certain way...then that's the way it's going to work, unless it proves to be unplayable (as in ineffective). If it were ineffective, I would work with the player to resolve the issue. However, I am not going to bow down to pressure from...

Should Prestige Classes be more powerful than Base Classes?

I think in the realm of what they specialize in, PrCs should be more powerful than base classes. Also, I have found that by limiting Player Characters to one 10 level PrC and one PrC of less than 10 levels, it all works out fine. ymmv

can celestial armor be given the mithral property?

I would not allow Celestial Armor to be made out of Mithral and gain any benefit. If you look at the stats of Chainmail made out of Mithral, ignoring the built in flight, Celestial Armor is better anyway. As if, it's already made out of a better material than Mithral. So no, I wouldn't allow it.

Finding d16s (was: How Balanced are d16s?)

Mathematically speaking, they should work just fine, though it seems they would roll around a bit before stopping (and should spin really well, hehe).

    Equipping a high level Spellcaster

I was responding to someone else's suggestion that the wizard (who had no item creation feats) use their own Wishes to get Inherent bonuses to their stats.

Ever died from suffering an AoO?

If I'm even remotely close to death...and I do mean remotely, I won't provoke an AoO.

    Equipping a high level Spellcaster

Despite the drawbacks, I'd consider a Robe of Eyes... Also, you might want to squeeze a non-caster level in there, like Fighter. Then take a Light Mithril Shield of Heavy Fortification. Get a bit more AC, be immune to crits and sneak attack damage....very nice. I'd actually ditch the...

    Equipping a high level Spellcaster

That's 25,000xp for a +5 inherent bonus, all in one shot since you have to cast the Wish spells in succession. Honestly, I think the money is easier to come by than the spare 25,000xp per +5 bonus.

    Equipping a high level Spellcaster

When I get a chance I'll read this and try to give a worthwhile reply, but when I first saw the thread title, the first thing that popped into my mind was: Equipping a high level Spellcqaster? I wonder what slot you'd equip him in? Does he have to be two size categories smaller than you?

    Statting up powerful beings

This might not be what you had in mind, but in my custom game worlds, if I intend for Gods or beings of Godly power to have any direct interaction with the world... I use the old Primal Order rules (I don't think they are in print any longer, but I'm sure you could dig up a used copy). Here's a...
