There's A New Edition Of The Cypher System Coming

In the 12 years since Numenera was released, we've gotten two editions of Numenera and the core rulebook. It seems a bit hasty to release a 3rd edition already IMHO. I dig the game and all, but does it really need that much tweaking? I'd rather see more content come out for the system.

D&D General Cthulhu by Torchlight Brings Mythos To D&D

I would prefer if it were the other way around. Running a sword & sorcery game in Call of Cthulhu could be a hoot. Lethal, but a hoot. And yes, I have Cthulhu Dark Ages, but I think something designed to be more pulpy would be fun.

RPG Print News – Recently Played and Intriguing RPGs

Gods how I used to love Alternity. I only got to run it a few times, but had a blast when I did. It's a shame that it was cancelled. Even the launch of 2e just wasn't the same. I can only imagine what we might have seen if it continued on.

RPG Evolution: Who Are You Again?

I've always liked using the "Mastermind" archetype for villains in my campaign. Someone pulling the strings on what seems to be unrelated events to further their own nefarious goals. It could be someone from the shadows, or maybe someone closer to the player characters than they realize. In a...

    Magazines Dragon Reflections #94

Yup. I've bought a few things here and there from FGU in the past. I'm more of a Champions GM these days, but I like to revisit the old V&V products and convert characters over from time to time, or read them for inspiration. I often wonder what could've been, however, when it comes to indie...

    Magazines Dragon Reflections #94

I loved the V&V ads back in the day. I remember using them in the system, and even converting them over to other games. Always wished we'd get more. I believe that Shatterman and Condor stats also appeared in the Villains & Vigilantes comic book from by Eclipse Comics since they were central...

RPG Print News – D&D, Troika!, and More

Prices for Break have gone up (probably due to Tariffs): $71/$104. Ouch.

Where’s The Deathstalker RPG? Part 2

I think this is a bit of a jump, Egg. RPGs are still a bit niche for some and banking on 600-900 fans of the movie to back it could be more disappointing than one might think. Ouch. Personally, I don't need a Deathstalker RPG. I think a "It Came From the 80s" kind of book might be more...

Daggerheart Review: The Duality of Robust Combat Mechanics and Freeform Narrative

Part of what appears to be the issue is that folks define "fun" differently from group to group. As an example, I ran the FFG Star Wars for a while and enjoyed it for the most part. The group I ran with enjoyed the game as well, but most of the narrative functions of the game weren't used very...

What does it take for an RPG to die?

    It's a secret. You'll need Beta-Gamma-Green clearance for an answer. ;)

What does it take for an RPG to die?

Surprisingly enough, there are quite a few "old school" games that have had success as PDFs through DriveThruRPG and it's affiliated sites. Many of the older TSR games have found their home there, including different editions of D&D/AD&D, Star Frontiers, and more. I've seen older Rolemaster...

What does it take for an RPG to die?

Exactly. Hey, I resemble that remark. ;) In all seriousness, that's why I try and keep my favorite games alive by discussing or running them. There are some fun games that have come out in the last decade or so, but I enjoy introducing some lasting favorites to new players. How else do we...

What does it take for an RPG to die?

Thing is, there are communities for some of those games. MSH, d6 Star Wars, and MERP all have thriving online communities. Rolemaster has had some new stuff released lately from Iron Crown. I think I heard new rumblings about a new edition of Spycraft as well. Necrogamers for the win. ;) Games...

What does it take for an RPG to die?

There's some POD stuff out there. Tiger Paw Press has been working with Heroic Publishing to make sourcebooks for the League of Champions comics. Two books out so far, with a third in the works.

What does it take for an RPG to die?

Champions Complete came out in 2019 according to the internets. There's been some new third party stuff that's been fun, with some of it related to Hero's history.

What does it take for an RPG to die?

I actually started a new Champions game at the end of last month. ;) No game is ever truly dead. Heck, Lord of Creation came up in my socials feed not too long ago and, for a brief second, made me wish I still had the books. ;)

Critical Role Announces Age of Umbra Daggerheart Campaign, Starting May 29th

Have all of the frameworks included in Daggerheart been revealed? I'm on the fence about the system, but intrigued.

Where’s The Beastmaster Roleplaying Game? Part 2

There was a Witch World book for GURPS back in the '80s.

Where’s The Beastmaster Roleplaying Game? Part 2

Oh... and to add another name into the hat: Magnetic Press. Look at the Planet of the Apes RPG and you'll see why I'd love to see it happen. Honestly, I'm hoping they get the Star Wars license so we can jump back into a d6 SW system.

Where’s The Beastmaster Roleplaying Game? Part 2

I wouldn't be surprised to see someone like Modiphius, Monolith, or Free League picking this up. Look at where Conan had landed as far as RPG properties. Would it work in an OSR kind of game? Probably. Should it? I think there are better systems out there and agree to some extent with Paragon...
