D&D 5E (2014) 5e "Anyspell," Would You Allow the Enclosed Spell?

The reaction mechanic doesn't really work here. You can only take a reaction when something triggers it, which you don't have here. I see what you are going for, but I think it would be better to say "Casting time: varies", and then specify that the casting time is the same as the spell you are...

    D&D 5E (2014) Trained Watch Dog

Passive perception would be 18 for checks relying on hearing or smell, but only 13 for checks relying on vision. So it depends what the hound is trying to observe. I let pets use their special senses where relevant, yes.

D&D 5E (2014) Blessed healer and mass cure spells.

Just to say, I think it is a bad rule that you can't see yourself when you are invisible. It raises all kinds of questions about how you could fight effectively when you can't see your weapons. Or pick a lock, or get the right spell components out of your bag. And I don't see how the nerf to...

D&D 5E (2014) Blessed healer and mass cure spells.

I think you all are arguing in circles here because you actually agree. It might help if I try to rephrase noko's first post, now that I understand their style a little better. "Keep in mind that the caster is not automatically included as a target for Mass Healing Word. Since the caster can...

D&D 5E (2014) Can a Glamour Bard use Mantle of Inspiration on Self?

Yes, unless you’re blind or invisible or something.

D&D General Adventure Journal - Twenty days into adventure, still got 10 days rations

I've never tracked that kind of thing, but if I ran an adventure where endurance/supplies were part of the challenge, I reckon I would. (I'd warn the players first of course.)

D&D 5E (2014) How much cover is peeking through a wall?

Is that any different than the 5e rules, DMG, pg 251? It sounds the same. The PHB rules also call out creatures as providing only half cover. So you are the designers are on the same wavelength :) I guess allowing multiple creatures to upgrade the cover is not 5e RAW. (Though a sensible ruling...

D&D 5E (2014) How much cover is peeking through a wall?

Core rules say you can’t attack from around a corner without moving into the open, so you can stick with that if players insist.

D&D 5E (2014) Blessed healer and mass cure spells.

I'm a little confused what you're saying here, you don't think a cleric can target himself with mass healing word? I know the devs have confirmed that you can see yourself (assuming you can see).

D&D 5E (2014) How much cover is peeking through a wall?

Interpreting it this way makes adjudicating cover very simple, makes in-game sense like 95% of the time, and helps quite a bit with resolving stealth situations. (ie, the rogue wants to stay hidden while he pokes his head into the doorway? That's fine but the enemy gets a 3/4 cover bonus. That...

D&D 5E (2014) What can a dragon do to accelerate its aging?

Me too, but I could see playing the mystery up, having it be an ongoing theme long after the dragon is defeated. Maybe other dragons seek out the players to grill them about it. But keep putting obstacles in the way to keep the players from find an answer.

D&D 5E (2014) Blessed healer and mass cure spells.

Just going by the rule text, I’d say the the cleric gets the bonus healing regardless of whether they themselves are also healed by the spell. And I don’t really have any balance problem with that.

D&D 5E (2014) How much cover is peeking through a wall?

I would let you choose 3/4 or 1/2, but I’d apply the same cover bonus to your enemy.

D&D 5E (2014) What can a dragon do to accelerate its aging?

Alternative: the players go to the feywild and find that centuries have passed when they return. That way the time shenanigans happen “on screen.”

WotC Ray Winninger Is Head of D&D RPG Team; Mike Mearls No Longer Works on RPG

Well, from the forum I’ve learned that Ray Winninger is not Matt Mercer, that’s something.

    D&D 5E (2014) Vampire Wish

This. Also the alignment could revert to LG and the DM could still say it is an NPC. I think that if you want a vampire player character, the better approach is to house rule up a sensible version that keeps you reasonably balanced with the other players. There have been a ton of those in the...

D&D 5E (2014) Extending the 'cast it one year in succession and said effect is permanent until dispelled' Mechanic

Tiny servants attack at +5, deal 1d4+3 bludgeoning. Whether an army of them breaks anything isn't obvious, but it would clearly work better than say animate dead which is the same level. Actually though it would take centuries to make an army, since you could only make permanent a handful per...

D&D 5E (2014) Extending the 'cast it one year in succession and said effect is permanent until dispelled' Mechanic

Xanathar's adds druid grove and snare which seem fine. Nominally soul cage but I don't see how that could actually be done. And tiny servant, which could be exploitable if you made an army of them.

D&D 5E (2014) Extending the 'cast it one year in succession and said effect is permanent until dispelled' Mechanic

Plenty of campaigns start at higher level, why would a character not be able to say they had cast one of these spells at some point in their past? And NPCs could presumably do this too. You could account for that in your adventure design, but it seems like any spell casting NPC who could set up...
