AD&D 2E The 2E that might have been...

Having recently acquired a copy of Dragon #103 and read through it, one of the most interesting articles was "From the Sorcerer's Scroll" by EGG himself (one of his last, IIRC), talking about his view of how the second edition of D&D would look like. He anticipated that it would be a 2-3 year...

    TSR AD&D 1e MMIII?

You have critters from two articles I wrote for 137. By that point, I think the IP gets a lot clearer, as my contract specifically says that the Publisher gets all rights from the Seller if the article is accepted, so WOTC should have all rights to them. But I have no idea about earlier issues...

D&D General Dragon Editor-in-Chief Kim Mohan Passes

RIP. When I started sending submissions to Dragon, he was still the editor (briefly). I used to proudly tell people that my first article submission was personally rejected by Kim Mohan....

RPG Evolution: Dice Gifts for Gamers

one of my nieces is into D&D/5E. I spent a chunk of last year assembling a 'weird dice' set. I had one set that, along with the standard D&D dice, included oddball ones like D3s, D5s, etc., all the way up to D30. And a standard set that had tiny little rubber duckies inside. And a set that...

RPG Evolution: Oh No, Everyone's Here!

the last group I was in (as the DM) had 7 players, and other than the very beginning and end of the college semesters, they all showed up every time. So my adventures tended to be the 'lots of enemies' type so that everyone had something to do....

    Dragon Reflections #61

acquiring SPI and Amazing Stories, in hindsight, were a couple of real wastes of cash TSR needed later. At the time, though, I suppose that expanding beyond RPGs seemed like a good idea...

D&D General Was your first experience with D&D as a player or as a DM?

I lucked out in that my first game was as a player, with a DM who had quite a lot of practice at it, and several experienced players who were willing to let me sit in... they were running a one shot with new PCs, and were down a player, and let me join in. I had read the books, so I knew...

    D&D General Fantasy Farming

or maybe this one kingdom isn't so blessed with arable land or abundant water, and turns to magic to feed everyone? That could be a case where, 'yes, it's necessary'....

    D&D General Fantasy Farming

I'd think it would come down to 'would it be all that necessary for magic to be used in agriculture?" I'm no expert, but I always had the idea that medieval farming, inefficient as it was compared to modern farming, generally got the job done, as in, they usually grew enough to feed most of the...

    D&D General Fantasy Farming

I always imagined a D&D world to have more or less normal Medieval type farming, which is basically very labor intensive, and magic won't really enter into it... unless something bad comes along that would threaten harvests. New crop/livestock diseases, for example, or drought, early/late...

D&D General D&D, magic, and the mundane medieval
