Fabled Lands choose your own adventure game books are back

They are very similar, in that you create a character and choose which path to take through the books. The big difference is style, LW is more of a railroad (and I mean that in a good way, you are following a plot trying to achieve a specific goal) while FL is a sandbox (go wherever you want...

Fabled Lands choose your own adventure game books are back

There are also plans for a Fabled Lands tabletop RPG from Greywood Publishing (the makers of QUERP, if you're familiar with that). Although the rules from the old gamebooks are almost robust enough to run a tabletop game. Still, I'm interested to see what they come up with.

    Looking for a new game

Why don't you tell us what you want from a fantasy game? There are tons out there to choose from, and without knowing what you like and dislike it's hard to recommend something you might be interested in. If we're just pimping systems we like, here's mine: D6-As mentioned above, easy and...

    D&D Retro-clones

I don't know if you noticed, but there are a ton of supplements and adventures available for BFRPG for free from the same website where you can download the game itself. BFRPG downloads

Looking for a "Middle" sized campaign setting.

Bloodwood is a regional setting for Iron Heroes that sounds like what you want. Free for download at rpgnow.

    Looking for a Campaign World

Maybe one of these: http://wiki.rpg.net/index.php/Homebrew_Campaign_Settings A couple that I liked are Breminor and Mythosa. I also like The Realms of Aedenne that I found on Dragonsfoot

Save or Die: Yea or Nay?

Yes. If you have to save or die, it means you have done something stupid that you deserve to die for. The chance to save is actually quite generous in allowing you to avoid that fate.

    A+ Fantasy

Are you talking about the game at 1km1kt? I'd check on the message boards over there, or email Jeff Moore (the author).

I didn't go in because i was with family, but Heroes and Dragons looked awesome from the outside.

Favote Fantasy RPG(s) other than D&D

Dungeonslayers-Gives that same old school D&D feel, and surprisingly robust for 20 pages. And it’s free. Fighting Fantasy and Advanced Fighting Fantasy (the former when I want to add house rules)-Simple as all get out and can simulate generic fantasy as well as any game I’ve seen. Barbarians...

    Lightweight RPG Systems

The 1PG Games from Deep 7 sound like what you want. The actual rules are 1 pg, then a couple of pages of genre specific rules. Character creation takes about 30 seconds. Each genre is a separate game, but they are only three or four bucks each, and there are quite a few genres offered...

Please help me find a new gaming system!

I'll go in a different direction and recommend either: -Barbarians of Lemuria Legendary Edition, or -Legends of Steel Barbarians of Lemuria Edition Both use almost identical rules (the latter uses the rules of the former, but with a different setting). Pretty light on rules, you have...

    What do you always use?

The Werewolf Fakeout I think I got the idea from an old Endless Quest book. If it works right it goes like this. The PCs are attacked by several wolves (usually three). One runs away when it gets badly injured. The others fight to the death. The ones that die transform into people and the...

10 Campaign Settings: Which Ones Should I Get?

What are you looking for? Something that is completely fleshed out so that you don't have to do any of the work? Something painted in broad strokes that you can fill in your own details for? A popular setting? One that isn't so popular so you don't have to worry about canon lawyers pitching...

    D&D Metal

I'm currently running a classic D&D game based on "Axes of Evil". And I'll add a few of my recommendations: Pyramaze Hammerfall Steel Attack Demons and Wizards (a joint effort by guys from Iced Earth and Blind Guardian) Zandelle Galloglass Black Majesty Magic Kingdom Human Fortress That's...

    Started With Fighting Fantasy Books

That's me too. Actually I started with the "World of Lone Wolf" gamebooks featuring Grey Star, they were much darker and creepier than the regular LW books IMO. I can't wait for Mongoose to put out their new Lone Wolf tabletop RPG, supposedly later this year I think. Unlike the OGL version...

What rules light fantasy system would you recommend for 'winging it'?

It depends on what you mean by this. What kind of things are you worried that you might have to "build"? For my recommendations, D6 Fantasy from West End Games is pretty rules-lite. It plays fast, and you can be up and running with characters created in about as much time as it's taking me to...

Wait...are you saying "fluff" has a different meaning when it comes to RPGs? Excuse me for a moment... /rushes off to go rewrite house rules document

POLL: Would you play D&D without a Skill System?

I'd like to keep skills, but restrict it to just trained skills. Untrained skills that are merely extensions of natural abilities (Spot, Listen, Hide, Move Silently, etc) would be based solely on attributes. As would the trained-only skills, but they would not have ranks. They would just be...
