    AD&D 2E Jakandor

I'm OK with their focus on Forgotten Realms. It seems to be what everyone (5e people, BGT3 people, and HAT watchers) think is "the" D&D setting. I don't like "moving the timeline" forward approaches as has been done in FR (and in From the Ashes for Greyhawk). I prefer the approach in Harn -...

    D&D 5E (2024) Greyhawk 2024: comparing Oerth and Earth

If it’s no Swedish, it’s no good! :p

    D&D 3.x Special olympics

Not exactly, but I have done holiday contests in game of various sorts: archery, baking, swimming, etc. The non-combat ones I do as a Skills contest.

    D&D 5E (2014) Docks Illustration?

The 19th century tech stuff in D&D seems Forgotten Realms ish to me. Not all D&D is FR … though it’s almost all FR.

    AD&D 2E Jakandor

From 1992-1995, I was 100% out of D&D but game mastering Top Secret/SI, Boothill 2e, RECON, and West End Games Star Wars. In 1996, I got back to D&D and made the easy choice to use the version I and my players (except one who never played before) were super used to. So used to it, I had some...

    D&D 5E (2014) Docks Illustration?

Wikipedia tells me Lytham’s flag is a rowboat above stylized waves, and it’s known for its …. Salt marsh! And the parish church is St. Cuthbert! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lytham_St_Annes

So much 2e stuff … the endless horde of rarely played 2e publications!

    AD&D 2E Jakandor

I stopped playing D&D in 1991, and didn’t come back until 1996. And when I did come back, I DM’d AD&D 1e for a bunch of people who fell off the current edition bandwagon in the 2e era. I only “got right with the current edition” from 2001-2008 (a year late to 3e through a year into early 4e)...

    AD&D 2E Jakandor

No kidding. 2e had so much of everything. It would have been a full time job - or more - to even read everything they published in that era, much less run it.

    AD&D 2E Jakandor

Similar to why I asked the question. For my Greyhawk campaigns, I’m filling in the rest of Oerth, and Jakandor looks like it might fit as the unexplained (at all, other than being on the map) small island continent of Gonduria.

It sounds interesting, but yes, I never saw the inside of those books either.

    Ever play Jakandor?

Discovered after posting that this 17-year old thread also existed.

AD&D 1E Determining Mercenary/Hireling HPs for Castle Guard and Ship crew.

Read the AD&D 1e DMG sections on hirelings, which includes troop types and the levels and ratios for sergeants, lieutenants, and captains. Possibly my favorite thing in D&D!

    AD&D 2E Jakandor

Back in the day (1997 or 1998, around the TSR bankruptcy), I was vaguely aware this product existed. Apparently it’s a large island that can be a campaign or a part of a larger setting, where a society of barbarian invaders fight a society of necromancers. Anyone use it? Any opinions on it...

It's been so long since the last GURPS edition, that the present day is now in the "future" tech level

Our world has factory robots, robot surgery, delivery robots, (mostly) self-driving cars, and Aibos. We’re halfway there on robots.

You mean didn’t buy because of the cost? Oh, probably mean bought because of 50th anniversary?

D&D General The New York Times on D&D

Must have been a 4e or 5e thing. In 3x, the distinction between “usually CG” for things like elves and “always CE” for things like demons was clearly called out. Fixing mistakes in 5e for 2024 is probably a good thing.
