Yes, as a subsidiary of Hasbro they're basically working out of someone's garage. Heaven forbid they edit a video podcast to make it a tad more interesting. After all, it was either "edit the video podcast" or "pay a developer for a week of work."
Even then, all you really have going for you is your lawyer's interpretation of the what the GSL means. What matters more to the little publishers that can't afford legal battles of any sort is WotC's interpretation of these clauses.
Ahhh . . . I get what you're saying. Character powers that depend on the target being bloodied.
It'll be interesting to see what happens when those kick in.
Eh. Me and some of my players have a pretty decent handle on 4E (though not as good as we would if we had played to 10th level) and some of them are strongly agitating for switching. I have other players who haven't been paying attention to the big switch at all.
The whole series of encounters...
You are correct!!
My goodness, an actual rule in the PHB on what seems like a fairly obvious situation groups are going to run into.
Weird rule though.
It was night with a full moon. The ambient light conditions were dim. They had a light source, but it wasn't where the Dragon made the cloud of darkness.
In fact, I had been constantly reminding them to remember their light source and I finally just stopped and let them suffer a while because...
As the guy who ran "Do Black Dragons Dream of Acidic Sheep?" I have to say that the power being described sounds awesome. It would've made the encounter go faster, but not THAT much faster. Can't speak to exactly how much since I haven't done the DPR calc.
As for the guy that said a +5 was...
Don't forget that the prior encounter (level 11 vs. level 10 party) also went on for a long time and only ended because I decided to let the party kill the monsters.
The flameskulls were the real problem there. Those suckers are level 8 monsters (though I advanced them to 9) that have fly 10...
Actually . . . .
This is one of the areas where the Devs clearly left it up to each group to decide how it works. I can find no rules anywhere that describe how mundane/magical darkness/light interacts with mundane/magical light/darkness.
Basically, I just ruled that the two cancel each other...
No. It was an encounter of my own design with pre-gens of my own design.
Sure, but the Paladin just wasn't that much of a threat to warrant special treatment. None of them really were. If dog-piling was necessary to make the encounter a challenge, sure.
Nah, only the fighter and the paladin...
Where's the extra +1 to attack come from? But yeah, the warlock placed a curse first chance he got.
Yeah, but she was having a tough time getting into a flanking position. She used her tumble to flank and then the dragon squidded out of it.
At the time though, I didn't realize that only a...
Heh heh. Few week back, huh?
What sort of dragons and level were they?
Well, they'd have to get him to 75% first. I'm not sure how long that would've taken. Things were starting to look kinda TPK'ish though it was really too early to tell.
The dragon was having a similar time really hurting...
Yeah. I've read that too. Dragons are supposed to be memorable and special.
In the 4E MM, that's not how they're portrayed. The DMG's section on solo monsters just says that one solo monster should be equivalent to five monsters. The dragon should not have been any more difficult than the...
Yeah, I think that there's something to be said for experience here.
At the same time, I was under the impression that 4E was supposed to be easier for "newbs" to play so that they'd be more inclined to like it on first exposure.
If "system mastery" is still required at levels 3+ then where's...
