    Are rogues marginalized by magic?

I always treated arcane lock as a trap that a rogue could disarm. I don't think magic overshadows other classes, though I think the 3e magic item system does. In 2e I think thieves were overshadowed by anything that breathed. The thief skill system flat out sucked and with suggested...

D&D 4E Forked Thread: 4e And 4th Wall, was multiclassing - is Arcane Initiate too powerful?

I mostly agree. Right now in 4e I find my self basically covering my eyes and saying don't see the man behind the mirror, just enjoy the show, have fun, its a game. I hope that eventually this will just come naturally as the new rules eventually fall into a new world logic for me. I've been...

    D&D 3.x 4E reminded me how much I like 3E

Yeah hold person was a great anti party spell though it was not nearly as cool for the party. Its "person" limit usually meant either leveled characters(somewhat rare) or sucker humanoids. While it and sleep were cool for taking out orcs, it usually was quick clearing the one hit brigade. It...

    D&D 3.x 4E reminded me how much I like 3E

Well that part was a "improvement" in 3.5 In 3e I believe you just fell behind. (though my memory can be totally off on this) So in 3e there was a XP hit and sometimes people were a level behind, but considering the power and utility gained from these feats it was a negligible hit IMO. Edit...

So, how are the Realms doing?

we have too many people at least when they all show. On average I have a slightly large group to deal with, so unfortunately we are not looking for more people. Apparently Ryan_Singer is looking though, maybe that can work out for both of you.

That would have been much smoother at least. 1 Roll is better than 2 and if the bonus if high enough many creatures basically become immune. Heck they can even add an exception that they do not auto-fail a save on a one.

3rd level changing my character. Maybe to wizard?

Yes, but it is really cool. I'd rather have a really cool effect on a few powers than boring effects on a lot of powers.

    D&D 3.x 4E reminded me how much I like 3E

I do not disagree with that point, I just think that the bigger flaw is the item creation feats especially the charged items ones. Out of spells themselves the big problem IMO was the save or die changes. In 2e and previous editions other than the sleep spell save or dies usually came around...

3rd level changing my character. Maybe to wizard?

I really like your character build. If I got to play, I might steal this. The more I think about it, the more I like it. I really like arcane reach, but I also really like spell focus, and a good wisdom helps with some powers. I had mainly thought about a orb wizard. And even though I was...

So, how are the Realms doing?

I mainly want fluff for a campaign setting. I don't see the need for special classes, feats, skills etc for a campaign that is fairly standard fantasy like FR is. If the players guide or whatever they will call the crunch part of the realms has great stuff I'll get it, especially if they...

So, how are the Realms doing?

Ummn cool. I may go pick this up then. Even if I don't end up moving away from 4e in the long run that just sounds like a cooler FR to me. I'm tempted to run down to Gator Games and get it right now, but I got pie in the oven.

    D&D 3.x 4E reminded me how much I like 3E

Well I'll say I think they lamified a lot of the spells for the same reason 4 e made changes...simplification. Spells like fireball were much cooler when they filled a volume none of this concrete area of effect crap. They unmagiked my magic. As for me balance wise the problem really wasn't...

3rd level changing my character. Maybe to wizard?

Personally Id go with the 2nd option. The 12,12,12 is really sweet IMO. But if you want to be orb focused, yeah the 1st option is a good build. Personally I'd be just as happy with a orb focused wizard with 4 points less in wisdom. All that means is once per encounter one target is penalized...

    Are scry durations too short?

Because if the duration were increased it would increase the utility of the spell allowing you to use it in situations outside of the: who murdered the king, apparently someone dumb enough not to protect vs scry farces. You could actually use it for the non-plot breaking parts of magical...

    Are scry durations too short?

And that is assuming one the person is protecting themselves versus scrying It is more expensive but take a short vacation in another plane and this ritual does nothing. If Osama if hanging out in the city of brass you get squat. And two you know who you are looking for like in the osama...

    Teleportation Circles

Not to me it doesn't, hence why I am boggled. Never wanting something in the rules I just can not fathom. I can take things out easy peasy, and all I have to do is talk with my players about it. Not currently needing it, not fitting your campaign that I can understand. Never wanting the...

    Immune Charm/Fear

The problem is, in this power fear does not impose any kind of condition. If negatives for moving closer was a fear effect it should have the (fear) label. It does not. The flavor text even just flat out says the beam is more powerful if the person tries to move closer into it. It seems not...
