    Wherefore Orcs?

None of the names similar to orc previously referenced a race of twisted rampaging humanoids bent on conquest via armies. Pretty much all of them after Tolkein do.

    Loosing XP in item making

Re: Re: Loosing XP in item making XP does not equal life force. I think the undead level drain is a crap mechanic too. :D

    Loosing XP in item making

For a magic-item rare campaign, another option would be to have the caster sacrifice spell slots to make items. The spell slots only come back if the item is somehow destroyed. I think this is a much more clean way of requiring a caster to expend personal power to create an item than xp cost...

    Loosing XP in item making

I think that making XP a currency weakens the system. It starts to introduce a point based advancement mechanism into a level based game. If you let people read the DMG and buy whatever stuff they want then I'm not sure how else you could handle it, but if you restrict what they can do with...

3.5e - Has the Feats system been damaged?

Then why do casters need spells per day limitations on damaging spells?

    Poor sword and shield?

That would be kind of lame if fighters all started using tower shields for day-to-day stuff. There's a reason why these were only used for tactical purposes on the battlefield...

    Gnomish Bards?! Oh the horror!

I read that they were giving bards the edge in divination and enchantment - not illusion.

Will the new Fey artwork in the Druid Revision Spotlight be in the 3.5 MM?

The old satyr was definitely better. I thought it was among the better illustrations in the MM so it seems strange to me that they would replace it. The nymph and dryad are nice pictures, but not really appropriate in my opinion, as I really don't see the seduction angle that they are supposed...

Re: Re: Looking for new fantasy RPG - story & roleplay oriented ! Hehe. I think your post is a pretty good example of why.

    [KoK] Two free monster previews!

Technically, the save DC might be incorrect, but in terms of game balance the save DC isn't too high if the end effect still works out fine. To counter half the party being taken out of combat temporarily, this creature only has 18 AC and 32 hp, which means it will probably go down in 2 rounds...

Looking for new fantasy RPG - story & roleplay oriented !

I have two suggestions, both of which have quickstart rules you can look at to sample the game: Riddle of Steel http://www.theriddleofsteel.net/support/TROSQS.zip This game has a brilliant mechanic called "spiritual attributes" that really help encourage roleplay. They are basically character...

Suggestions on use of Fey in new campaign world?

Perhaps both the surviving Fey and Yuan-Ti have visions of how the world should be and are acting on their respective plans to make it that way. Unfortunately neither of their visions include humans and the other PC races. This makes fey a group of people who are the lesser of two apocalyptic...

    Bards in 3e

I strongly agree with this. Bards can kick booty at archery with all the buffs they can give themselves. Plus, since you can stack up more to-hit bonuses with archery your lower BaB doesn't matter as much as it does in melee. Of course, in revised edition it won't stack as much, but at least...

The Gnew Gnome, are they just as useless and lame as the others?

I think they should have been made more like the little fellows in Legend. If you dropped the tinkering stuff the 3e one was already pretty close. That would have given them a nice and unique niche. Giving them bard as a favored class takes away from the illusion aspect which was at least...

    A druids oath

Perhaps it's not natural or non-metal weapons, but rather peasant weapons -- club, dagger, dart, halfspear, longspear, quarterstaff, scimitar, sickle, shortspear, sling, padded, leather, or hide armor. Metal vs. non-metal is a pretty easy distinction for peasant armor too. It all seems to fit...

    A druids oath

...anymore. Slings were very powerful and accurate in their day. They were often held in higher regard than bows were. They did require lots of training to learn to use effectively though. Slings were a weapon of the lower class. As such, I think it fits (more than the bow) with the sickle...
