A Question about a magic item in Of Sound Mind

I used OSM in my campaign, and they found it on the second try. As I DM I use to give snippets from the Bad Guys (TM). With a few groups already getting aware of them, it can be used to build paranoia. A few examples: 1. A spy giving information to his master about the party. The character...

    [cartography] Is this vessel seaworthy?

I'm no expert either, but I've been in a few in my life, including some replicas (viking ship and "knarr") The first impression is that it's very wide. While this makes it stable and able to carry lots of cargo, it'll make it sail like a dog. Definitely a boat only for inshore sailing and short...

    Scrolls and Metamagic

I'm pretty sure he can't, but I couldn't find the reference in the SRD. But metamagic changes the level of the spell, and a spell from a scroll is always a fixed level. .Ziggy

How much time do you devote your campaign?

We play every second week, and I usually use something like 3-5 hours on the day before planning the scenario and statting the NPCs. The biggest time stealer is leveled NPC, it often takes me more than an hour to stat out a medium-level NPC, including skills, spells and equiment. In addition I...

    Opinions?

Re: Wizard Art I like it. Clean, efficient style. It also has has a personal style, easily recognisable (at least in the pictures posted here), that is golden if you ever want to do professional work. .Ziggy

    Rude Awakening (sleeping rules)?

I use a listen check (usually from -5 (combat) to 10 (walking)), with a penalty of -15 for those asleep. Making the check wakes you up. In addition I use a Fortiyude Save (DC 10) for. If you make the check you can act normally, if you fail you can only take a partial action (or no action if...

    [art, hosted] DnD Iconics: Krusk!

It's your best one (so far :-)). I just love your mix between human and orc, and I'm so stealing it for my campaign. This guy could be mistanken for a human in a dark alley, but he's definitely a half-orc up close. I especially love the subtleties in the face, more specifically the eye(brows)...

    Illustrations

Probably because of metal armor. Curvy blades are very good for unarmored and light armored opponents, it will cut leather well, and leaves griveous wounds. But when you have to cut or stab through a thick metal plate, you need a stronger blade, my guess is that a curvy sword (kris-style)...

    would this be evil?

Wrong, that is only true for environmental (subdual) damage. I made the same mistake myself as a DM, and had to retcon a bit to fix it. I'm firmly in the camp with those who thing doing lethal damage on a crit is wrong. Rolling a 20 should always be the best possible result, and suddenly...

Take 10 - can you do it?

That is false. From the SRD: You cannot take 10 if you are "threatened or distracted", but penalty for failure is not an issue. (Psi)SeveredHead is probably thinking of the rule for taking 20: .Ziggy

Something funny about bow max distance

It works pretty well for short distances, but not at all for longer ranges. Let's say that you have a 50% chance of spotting someone at 100 feet. If the same person is hiding under the same conditions at 200 feet, you'll have 0% chance of spotting him. While it's reasonable that its harder to...

Something funny about bow max distance

But with the current rules for spot it's almost impossible to spot the archer/arrow, so it sort of makes sense :D [Two wrongs make one right ?] .Ziggy

    Barbarian Building!

I've got a ranger6/fighter1 (going for deepwood sniper) and a ranger5/wizard1 (going for arcane archer) in my campaign. I play a skill-heavy campaign, and they love those nifty ranger skills. .Ziggy

Something funny about bow max distance

I definitely agree with the range increments, IMHO the ranges of most ranged weapons should have been at least halved. But the spot thing is just plain silly. It's easy to spot an unconcealed person at 200 meters, a whopping -60 to spot. In fact most people can spot a person against a...

Something funny about bow max distance

Re: Re: Something funny about bow max distance Unless you got Far Shot (-12) or are a Deepwood Sniper (down to -6 depending on level). A high level Deepwood Sniper can hit things far beyond anything he can spot (that -1 per 10 ft is really ridiculous) .Ziggy
