D&D General Forgotten Realms Books Tables of Contents

I have little interest in running the Realms, but these ToCs are piquing my interests, the organization of sections alone makes me eager to read more, and strikes me as a great framework for expanding areas in the future or for use in presenting areas in other settings.

Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 5th Edition Is Coming in 2026

I have wanted to play/run this (mostly play) since I saw the ads for the 1st edition in the pages of Dragon back in the day. The art from the ads alone inspired many features of my old homebrew. But the only time I ever got to play it was in a one-off session run by @mearls at a home con maybe...

Oh yeah, I forgot that we changed that to a reroll of the attack.

Do you use "voice acting" when you play?

I don't really do voices as a regular thing. I give examples to make an NPC stand out and occasionally pepper it in to maintain that sense of immersion, but definitely not constantly and not over the top. I take this approach both as a player and a DM. I think intonation and word choice do a lot...

D&D 5E (2024) How to make ranged attack more hazardous for the user.

In my games we play with penalties (Disadvantage) for shooting at enemies engaged with allies (even if they aren't providing cover) and a chance for hitting an ally if they do provide cover. House rules are here: Allies & Cover In Ranged Combat - Ghosts of Saltmarsh We haven't implemented it...

D&D 5E (2024) Improving Medicine - one of the least loved skills.

My group has categories like this that they use to describe their HP loss to each other and that I use to signal how injured opponents are, but we used the cure spell categories as they existed in previous editions, "light, moderate, serious, and critical" and used "mortally wounded" to mean...

Fantasy Stories That Don’t Romanticise the Past

I only quickly skimmed through other people’s suggestions so I may have missed it, but I am surprised no one has mentioned China Mieville’s Bas-Lag novels. None of the three - Perdido Street Station, The Scar, and the Iron Council - romanticize anything and they are amazing and grim.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I have definitely found more than one Wikipedia infinite loop when researching a topic. You know, the wiki page cites a source that cites the wiki page and on and on. And when you can only find other sources that only cite the wiki page you cannot cite it (unless its in a footnote to explain...

D&D General Hours actually playing RPGs, D&D?

I figure I’ve played approximately 98 hours of D&D so far this calendar year. 30 hours of my remote game, Revenants of Saltmarsh (10 sessions) 35 hours of my in-person game, Primordial Evil (11 sessions) 33 hours as a player in a game played via OBR/Discord, Wildemount Edges (11 sessions)...

How Do You Like Your Steak?

See, that makes sense to me. Insisting on "pink or no pink" as the only options? Not so much.

How Do You Like Your Steak?

My vote is public. But has anyone encountered this thing at restaurants where they ask you "pink or no pink?" and not the standard "rare, medium, well" gradations we've all been using in this thread? I have once or twice, and find it annoying. A server explained that it was supposed to be...

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

I really think that any time anyone mentions "6 to 8 encounters per adventuring day" they should have to pay me a dollar, and if they leave out the word "adventuring" they should have to pay me five.

D&D 5E (2014) Not upgrading? What version of D&D 5e are you sticking with?

Not sure how to vote. I use 2014 5e + whatever I like from all the books after it and all the editions before it. My next campaign will be a homebrew 5e ruleset.

D&D General Combat Against Player Engagement: A Systemic Challenge

I am blessed with two groups that remain engaged throughout. So this is not an issue for me when I DM. But I will say I personally find it hard to remain engaged when it is not my turn as a player in an online game. I just find it easier to remain engaged when we are all at the table.
