D&D 5E (2014) What do you specifically want out of reviewers?

I tend to like the reviews by MerricB because they tell me more about the quality and functionality of modules, which can be more objectively assessed.

    The Orville - Season 1

I was concerned because the show is tonally odd, its mix of exploring social issues and lowbrow humor doesn't always work. Secondly, the show has been savaged by critics and the ratings have fluctuated week to week. Lastly, it is on Fox. They have a history of cancelling sci-fi shows I like...

North Texas RPG Convention Refuses To Listen To Harassment Concerns

I get not liking the public relations aspect (or "formal babble" :D) of running a small event. It's a distraction from the enjoyment of the event itself. But sometimes it is unavoidable. If you have customers, then at some point you'll be dealing with a customer complaint. Regarding...

    The Orville - Season 1

Against all odds, renewed for season 2! http://variety.com/2017/tv/news/seth-macfarlanes-the-orville-1202605463/

What are you reading? Nov 2017

I picked up Origin by Dan Brown, the 5th novel in the Da Vinci Code series. Brown's really good at spinning pseudo-history into edge-of-your-seat mysteries. This series is my guilty pleasure.

D&D 5E (2014) Point Buy vs Rolling for Stats

Wow, this thread has gone over 1900 posts at this point. So I'm here to help. Point buy is better than rolling. If you roll bad your character sucks. If another player rolls bad your ally sucks. Don't risk it, use point buy. Glad I was here to clear things up.

Gaming At The Kids Table With The Basic Hack

This "kids' table" series is becoming a fast-favorite of mine. I've also lifted inspiration for rules-light one shot mechanics from some of these reviews.

North Texas RPG Convention Refuses To Listen To Harassment Concerns

The harassment allegations exist (i.e. it is a fact that complaints have been made). Questioning the motivations of those raising concerns is a trap, and labeling an opposing viewpoint as an "agenda" is leaping headfirst into that trap. Instead, the smart response for the host is to address the...

North Texas RPG Convention Refuses To Listen To Harassment Concerns

Well, it sounds like in the initial statement (and even more so in the follow up) he's trying to say that the convention will not tolerate harassment at the con, but that he's not going to address behavior outside of the convention. He's also really, really terrible at putting together an...

Xanathar's Guide Shows Up In The Wild!

Are there FLGS with online shops that you could pre-order from? (Also curious what state you are in.)

D&D 5E (2014) Which adventure are you currently running?

CURRENT Wednesday: D&D5e - Playing a NE Tortle Cleric (Tempest) in a loosely-defined homebrew dungeon crawl. Friday: D&D5e - Playing a N Human Fighter (Eldritch Knight) using the Pathfinder: Kingmaker module adapted to a 5e homebrew detailed steampunk setting. RECENTLY ENDED Thursday: D&D5e...

    D&D 5E (2014) Freezing a region.

I like this list. OP should do all of them.

    D&D 5E (2014) Printable Maps for 5e Published Adventures?

Is Tyvek commonly available? I'd never heard of it before today, but it sounds interesting? Where do you go to get this done?

    D&D 5E (2014) Pedantic pet peeves

I am the rare person who loves the fantasy name apostrophe trope. I treat it like it's glottal stop, but with more spittle and Klingon bravado. I also like to soundly abuse the hyphen like it is a demented Chōonpu. :p Glottal stop: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glottal_stop Chōonpu...

    D&D 5E (2014) Group Rule Deal-Breakers

tl;dr: There's no compromise? It's hard to manage highly detailed worldbuilding without some concept of where within the setting the party will operate. Full version: There's no give-and-take at all? What if the DM lays out a well-developed setting and says "You can go anywhere, but I feel...

    D&D 5E (2014) Group Rule Deal-Breakers

I only encountered it once. Which was exactly how many times I needed to encounter it to warrant putting it on a dealbreakers list. ;)

    D&D 5E (2014) Decades spanning campaigns

A DM once said "You all go your separate ways, but agree to meet up again if one of you sends out a signal." It was heavy handed, but we were forewarned. It did at a sense of excitement to being recalled years later.

    D&D 5E (2014) Modern influences on 5e!

I actually meant western as in the western hemisphere (as anything non Eastern/Asian), but I did enjoy your thoughts on the setting of the American Ol' West.

    D&D 5E (2014) Group Rule Deal-Breakers

There are some lists of "deal breakers" here that are mind blowing. I can't imagine being that inflexible. Here are my deal-breakers. -Re-writing the rules extensively. There's no reason to rewrite every page of the book. I'd much rather a DM pitch playtesting a pure homebrew rule system then...
