    Iron Man 3 - Spoilers

Saw it today - had a great time watching it. Much more enjoyable than Oblivion. Would have liked to see more details in the final action scene and the bad guys in that last scene were just a touch too over the top.

    Does DDN do it better?

I'm finding it to be heading exactly where I want the game to be going. I am playtesting it with new and experienced players - everyone reports that they are having a blast. The new players are getting the hang of the mechanics faster than I'd seen before with either 3rd or 4th. From the DM...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

I wouldn't have any problem with that. But, given that I only game with friends, I find it almost impossible that anyone of them would ever do that. Of course the group of friends I game with now already divides experience and treasure between all the characters whether or not their player (or...

Great movies you might not have heard of.

I've seen quite a few movies that have been suggested - and the ones I haven't seen I'll have to check out. Also, the original Lathe of Heaven was much better than the remake & Nate and Hayes is one of my all time favorite movies. A few I think are great and relatively unknown are 1) Four...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

I only game with friends so there never is a "nuclear" option. If someone isn't having fun we're all pretty up front about talking about it in a manner that doesn't cause the game to go boom. And we're all open to compromise. If I couldn't be comfortable talking about my enjoyment or lack...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

Because it was directed at Pemerton and not you and you've said considerably worse about others who approached this whole topic from a different perspective than you - glass houses and stones and pots and kettles and such. I don't care how you are characterizing your argument. Pemerton usually...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

I don't think anyone is defending a DM that can't make reasonable compromises. It's a two way street, players have to be able (and willing) to make reasonable compromises also - and some of the comments in this thread sure come across like this is all on the DM.

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

Hmm, that's not what I got from your posts (or Hussar's) - it seemed that you were saying they were bad as in forcing the players to suffer through some DM ego power trip. Oh well.

Do you have any posters on this board? Just curious... You seem to be saying others are bad GMs because they play differently from you.

    Gamehackery: The Facebook Effect

We use a yahoo group. Allows us to communicate without dubious privacy issues. Facebook has no redeeming qualities as far as I'm concerned - especially with its changes on a whim for no good reasons and its active elimination of any privacy in the name of "helping you" connect with friends.

Is the Burning Wheel "how to play" advice useful for D&D?

Just wanted to comment here - I disagree with your assessment of 2E AD&D. To this day, the most memorable games for the group of people I have been gaming with for the last 30+ years were during the 2E era. It supported heroic fantasy very well IME. I think Celebrim has been on the right track...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

Just wanted to address a couple points Option A and Option B in your examples don't give identical results and in fact could have vastly different outcomes. But how do you reconcile that one player opting out of a scene may force another player to not have his fun also? You seem to be doing the...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

I don't think it matters what the game is built around, setting up fun situations should always be the goal. If not why in the world would anyone play? That's not what I meant :) I have found, however system is irrelevant when someone isn't having fun unless it is with the actual system itself...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

That doesn't prevent you from having a challenge that one or more of the players finds un-fun. What do you do in the middle of a scene when it becomes obvious some one at the table isn't having fun?

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

Well, part of the problem is when the player is allowed to do something like this once they often try to repeat it over and over because it's obviously better than just attacking a single target. So what you need is something to balance it - some risk/reward set up that the player can evaluate...

You're doing what? Surprising the DM

You've already more or less answered this yourself in a previous post - you go along until it's feasibly possible for the DM to change things up. If you are the only player getting antsy, let the DM know in private and see what he does. If all the players are getting antsy, the group should talk...
