MCDM monster book “Flee Mortals!” KS is live!

Well, the email said specifically that these pages were unproofed and would be proofread later by a large team. Anyway, looking forward to getting my book(s)!

    Forgotten Realms edition question

My advise to the OP is that the best edition for Forgotten Realms is all of them. I was recently thinking about an Undermountain campaign, so I read sourcebooks from every edition, from 1st through 5th. There were great ideas from all editions. Pick the elements you like best from each to...

    Such a great idea.

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

50th and 51st session of my Dragon Heist/Deck of Many Things mashup. Three player characters: Half-orc cavalier fighter, halfling swashbuckler rogue, and half-elf evoker wizard/grave cleric. 10th level. In the first session, they made plans for a high stakes exchange with their enemies. They...

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

50th session of my Neverwinter/Sword Coast campaign. Drow evoker wizard, human genie warlock, half orc vengeance paladin at 9th level. The characters are infiltrating the embassy of the Tower Arcane, which is my version of the Arcane Brotherhood, to uncover their evil schemes -- and to get...

    D&D 5E (2024) Revisiting Classes from OneD&D

Agree with most of the OP, except I will bet money that sneak attack will not be usable on a reaction. That's an optimization exploit a subset of the community considers essential, but most players have never even thought of.

    D&D 5E (2024) I like the new Warlock

Yeah, I feel like Pact of the Blade just ate Hexblade's lunch. Also, I never liked that at 6th level the Hexblade became a pet class. Bizarre design decision (which was made with multiple subclasses in that book). That said, I think this new Warlock creates a design space for having your patron...

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

Sessions 5, 6, and 7 of Free League's edition of Twilight: 2000. This time, I'm a player! Player characters: 26 year old American spy with a history of criminality 56 year old Polish truck driver who spent 30 years in prison 33 year old American special forces NCO who is career military...

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Sorceror

Right now, if I had to choose between sorcerer and wizard, I'd rather play a sorcerer. I like the round-to-round choices granted by metamagic and spell points. Seems really fun. And I dig the flavor, too.

D&D General Let's pitch D&D themed shows for WotC's new upcoming streaming channel

It's a series where every episode keeps getting rescheduled because no one can seem to show up.

    D&D 5E (2024) I like the new Warlock

Conceptually I love the warlock. But having briefly played one and having seen several in play, they are very constrained by the short rest system. My initial impression upon reading the playtest packet was positive. After watching Treantmonk's video, I like it even more. Definitely at the top...

    D&D 5E (2014) When Did 5E Peak Quality Wise?

Interesting question. From this thread it appears the answer is: Everyone has a different opinion. I'll say that I find something useful in every WotC release, even the ones I don't like. I've gotten great mileage out of maligned adventures like Storm King's Thunder and Dragon Heist.

    D&D 5E (2014) Best Official 1-3 or 1-5 Level Adventures?

I recommend two of the adventures released during the D&D Next playtest: Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle and Scourge of the Sword Coast. Together they make a solid sandbox.

D&D General How Was Your Last Session?

49th session of my Dragon Heist/Deck of Many Things mashup. Three player characters: Half-orc cavalier fighter, halfling swashbuckler rogue, and half-elf evoker wizard/grave cleric. During this session they hit 10th level. The session started mid-fight with a Death Knight -- the remains of the...

    D&D 5E (2024) I like the new Warlock

I'm not making a counter-argument and I'm not invested in this topic. I'm noting content in the packet that I thought you had overlooked based on your comment. I was trying to be helpful, genuinely.

    D&D 5E (2024) I like the new Warlock

At 5th level, 2024 Warlocks can select the Mystic Arcanum invocation, which grants them access to a 3rd level spell such as fireball. It's on page 37 of the packet.

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Fighter

At first read, Fighter looks fun. Definitely an improvement. In one of my campaigns a character has a 9th level fighter (who has played much better than I anticipated) and I think he'd have a blast rebuilding his character as a playtest Champion.

    D&D 5E (2024) 4/26 Playtest: The Sorceror

Flavor of the 2024 Sorcerer seems very similar to the 13th Age Sorcerer -- an emphasis on magic as a chaotic, destructive force. Which is fine. But not necessarily what I wanted. I'd like the Sorcerer to be more about maximizing the effectiveness of a small, thematic spell list. I realized in my...
