Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants Review

I see that the DnDBeyond version retains the art but the Roll20 version removed it. I think it was one of those AI pieces though, so I wouldn't be surprised if DnDBeyond also removes it.

Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants Review

There's quite a few creatures that are missing art in the Roll20 version, and most of those I think were the removed pieces. Going through them quickly I compiled the following entries without art: Fire giant forgecaller Frost giant ice shaper Frostmourn Rime hulk Hill giant avalancher Maw of...

D&D General Extra Credits: The History of D&D Hasbro Refused to Learn

There are tweets from people who worked at both WotC and Paizo in the article. They're saying that they had access to internal sales figures, and that Pathfinder didn't outsell 4e D&D. I don't understand why they'd have a motivation to mislead folks.

Pathfinder 2E Problems with percieved overpowered encounters in Pathfinder 1e+2e?

Yeah I touched on that in my edits. I would personally prefer if the untrained rank allowed you to add your level -2, and then Untrained Improvisation removed the -2 penalty. The difference between untrained and trained+ skills becomes egregious once you get to mid to high levels.

Pathfinder 2E Problems with percieved overpowered encounters in Pathfinder 1e+2e?

PF2 is pretty accurate for characters like Worf though. Even if you had +5 Charisma, your Diplomacy and Deception could be horrible and completely unusable if they were untrained skills, assuming you're playing past the first few levels. At level 10 for example, a +5 to a skill might as well be...

Pathfinder 2E Getting started with PF2

I want to caution you to have more realistic expectations with Foundry, in that while it is a really good VTT for PF2, it's not perfect and it can be a bit clunky and buggy at times. The PF2 rules module is made entirely by volunteers, so they're not paid professionals who are creating a product...

D&D General So what is high level play like?

Oh I agree that it slows down and overall becomes less fun. It’s been the same with all WotC editions of the game at high levels. Everything is slower, takes more time and effort. But 4e did allow for this particular power fantasy in a way that the other editions, 3.5 and 5e, can’t.

D&D General So what is high level play like?

One thing 4e can do really well in the epic levels is amazing power fantasy that works pretty smoothly, without getting too bogged down by complex or time consuming rules. I actually had a 4e group of level 21 PCs fight an actual army of people and dragons, and it all worked perfectly without...

D&D General So what is high level play like?

I've run high level games in all WotC editions. 3.5 is the worst experience because the game becomes so complicated and unwieldy and time consuming to prepare for. 4e is pretty fun, but the game is still faster and snappier in the first ten levels or so, maybe up to the low teens. 5e is a pretty...

    D&D General When 3e Fixed D&D - Almost

I wish they had gotten rid of static speeds and made Speed a more variable stat. Nearly all humans have identical speeds in D&D for example, and it's always been weird to make opposed speed checks with Dex or other similar skills -- when those attributes don't correlate with combat speed in any...

D&D 5E (2014) What houserules do we assume is common in the community?

I use the variant where you can substitute different ability scores for different skills, depending on the circumstances. What happens is that the distinction between Athletics and Acrobatics becomes even more blurred, and it's pretty obvious that the two skills are basically Strength and...

D&D 5E (2014) Wall of Force and spells

If you do allow some or all damaging spells to pass through a Wall of Force, the spell becomes even more powerful than it already is. Wall of Force lasts for 10 minutes, with concentration -- if you can catch all your (remaining) enemies within it, which is not uncommon, you basically turn Wall...

D&D 5E (2014) Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen... anyone play through it? Any good?

The posted links to reviews of people reading through the adventure aren't really reviews. With adventures it's very difficult to grasp the actual full extent and feel and pacing of the product until you prep and run/play it.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why are Mercane, Kandori, & Reigar's celestials?

They would probably be monstrosities. 5e monstrosities include creatures like doppelgangers, ettercaps, gnolls (since Monsters of the Multiverse), harpies, and medusas. Rilmani would fit right in.

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder To Get New Core Rulebooks Soon

AV is probably the best overall AP that PF2 currently has but it's not a traditional Paizo Adventure Path and thus it's a tough sell as the flagship adventure. Thing is, PF2 doesn't have a great AP in the vein of Rise of the Runelords or Curse of Strahd or Tomb of Annihilation. They have APs...

    D&D 5E (2024) One D&D Overly Complex

Some of the weapon properties are very fiddly in play and if released as is I could see them being annoying to track. Namely sap, slow, and vex. Those properties inflict "until start/end of your next turn" types of conditions, plus not only that but also "next attack" -- that's a double whammy...

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder To Get New Core Rulebooks Soon

Interestingly it looks like Paizo is going to move away from the classic chromatic and metallic dragon groups entirely. Not sure if white, green, red, silver, gold, etc. dragons are entirely gone in PF2.5 PF2 Remastered, but they're definitely shaking things up. I could see them using the new...

Critical Role Announces Two New RPGs

Watching Critical Role here and there, it's painfully obvious how the wargame roots of D&D hamper the players' creative ideas. I could imagine Daggerheart being a much more freeform game that lets the players describe their actions and the rules are either very simple or allow the GM to...

D&D General What About Those Other D&D Settings?

Although I love the Points of Light / Nentir Vale setting, calling it new is a bit of a stretch. In 2024 it'll have been 16 years since the introduction of Nentir Vale. It's a bit like calling Dragonlance a new setting during the launch of 3e D&D! I want something brand new. Something with its...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dark Sun, problematic content, and 5E…

I voted no even though the topic is more nuanced. The question as presented is very simple though, assuming it's just a blanket statement on problematic content. Is it okay to include sexual abuse and the sexual abuse of children if it's presented as evil and something to be fought? Is it okay...
