    jann, janni, djinn, djinni, aaaigh!

I think they're 'djinns' and 'efreets' in 4e. Singulars 'djinn' and 'efreet'.

DMG2 - Replacing magic items with inherent bonuses?

Well, there's only one type of masterwork item available in the game, masterwork armor. Once you check the Inherent bonuses box, you can buy them in the regular 'armor' section.

DMG2 - Replacing magic items with inherent bonuses?

I've been using it and it works well, definitely a departure from the usual D&D game. Note that the rules still assume some magic items, but you can replace them with various boons, some given in DMG2. They suggest that you can come up with new ones by using magic items as a guideline, and...

Gods, planes, afterlife, and the common man

I'd say the direct presence of a deity would dissolve any doubt as to whether that being was a god or not or even real in the first place. I mean, they ARE deities -- awe-inspiring and magically divine and all that. 3e's deity mechanics support this too, I think.

    Rituals and Masterwork Armor

The Inherent bonuses variant assumes non-magical masterwork armor, and when you check that box in the Character Builder, you can get them there too. They're assumed to be magical items equal to the minimum enhancement bonus normally required, so a suit of drakescale (+2) is a level 6 item.

    D&D 4E 4e Combat in PbP

That's fairly fast in PbP. ;) Interrupts should be handled by the DM. Players should avoid taking a lot of them, and the DM can activate them as necessary (frex encounter immediates as soon as triggered).

    D&D 4E 4e Combat in PbP

Visible enemy defenses and hp. Update every day, use at-will powers for players who miss an update. Use equal-leveled monsters. My heroic tier combats take 4 to 5 days. Also, fewer combats per level. I do only about 2 to 4, though they tend to be more difficult.

    D&D 4E 4Ed Dragon Compendium & DDI

Can't you get all issues of Dragon for less ($10) than the book that has only a fraction of the same stuff? Even if you don't like PDFs and other electronic stuff...

Does anyone else think this is a bug in CB?

There really is no mention of inherent bonuses being 'enhancement' in the DMG2. However, if they weren't, it would wreck the math because you're still supposed to give magic items or boons even if not as many. So at, say, level 7 you could wield a +2 magic weapon and get an unnamed +2 bonus from...

Not happy with Wizard's lack of fluff.

I've thought there's a good amount of fluff available. Maybe not in the books aimed at players, but the DM stuff like Draconomicons and the Planar books and so on have lots of it.

    General Monster Manual 3 Thread

The kraken caught my attention. It looks like it could work really well in that classic "ship attacked by the kraken" type of scenario. Plus it's level 10, which means a cool, epic encounter even at heroic.

Skill Challenges: How Much Have They Improved?

Skill challenges of course range from 4 successes to 12 -- I don't see how 4 or 6 are spamming. Unless it's a very complex situation, I don't think you should make a social challenge more difficult than 6 successes required. One very good advice in DMG2 that I've personally used a lot is how...

Skill Challenges: How Much Have They Improved?

I think a lot of these questions, if not all, are answered in DMG2.

    Downgrading Solo/Elite Monsters?

Draconomicon 2 has advice on how to change solo dragons into elites. Basically, you switch the basics to elite (hp, action points, saving throw bonuses) and remove the immediate action most dragons get. Also, breath weapon becomes an encounter power. It also suggests you check that the elite...

[Ari Marmell's blog] To House Rule or Not to House Rule

All I know is that the rules as presented in 4e books allow for a non-magical game with nothing but humans and no high-magic elements (or tieflings and whatnot), and it still works mechanically. :)

[Ari Marmell's blog] To House Rule or Not to House Rule

Actually, you can run a perfectly working 4e game with zero magic. Thanks to the warlord class and the alternative rewards option in DMG2, you can do it very easily and without sacrificing the use of the Character Builder (magic items re-flavored to natural, non-magical abilities). I think this...

    subdue rules?

I really like the way 4e handles subduing enemies. The players aren't penalized for not killing the opposition or it's not the suboptimal choice. Makes it easier to play less bloodthirsty characters.

GM Prep Time - Cognitive Dissonance in Encounter Design?

I'd use ogre minions at levels where the 'regular' ogre warriors have long ceased to be a threat. I'd use dragon minions the same way -- something like 'young dragon' minions at late paragon or early epic maybe.
