D&D General Demetrios1453 Plays the Gold Box Games

It’s probably more accurate to say that I took Ruins as my framework but built in top of it all the missing details from Pool of Radiance that I liked… leaving me with kind of a “greatest hits” (IMO) of the 2 works.

D&D General Demetrios1453 Plays the Gold Box Games

😂 Dang, if only I’d have thought of that!! Ok, next time! 👍

😅 Yes, I did for some of the secret codes., like Sokal Keep! If I had to suffer through that damn wheel so did they!!

D&D General Demetrios1453 Plays the Gold Box Games

I agree about the posters talking about Silverblades being a slog, it was a huge let down from one of my favorite entries: Azure Bonds. I found the higher level entries in most of these games kind of unfun, though Pools of Darkness goes so absolutely bonkers in its extreme power shenanigans that...

D&D General Demetrios1453 Plays the Gold Box Games

I’m loving this thread! The Goldbox series, particularly Pool of Radiance and Curse of the Azure Bonds have a special place in my heart, back when I first played them on an Apple II(!!). I’ve actually adapted and run the TTRPG version “Ruins of Adventure” about 4 times over the years, as...

    What System For...?

Does this system support giant sized monsters or is more of a “Supernatural”/“Buffy” simulator? Also what’s the game system like in a nutshell? Thanks!

    What System For...?

I'm not that familiar with Tinyd6, but that looks like it's worth a look! Than you. I have the Savage Worlds supplement you mentioned and tried it. It worked OK, and I've really enjoyed SW for other games, but it felt like SW mechanics weren't the best fit for what I was going for.

    What System For...?

Yeah, I picked CoC since I could re-stat some of the eldritch horrors as kaiju, or at least use them as a basis between scaling them and the humans. I may look at BRP in the future.

    What System For...?

I appreciate the suggestion... I've thought about using it in the past, but for some reason I bounce off Fate every time I've tried it!

    What System For...?

This is a fun thread! My game concept is Kaiju with human PCs that's basically a Godzilla movie. I've run a few games like this in the past as one-shots, usually with a lot of homebrewing and hacking. I usually allow the players to control giant monsters in monster battle scenes (sometimes...

Questions about Sentinel Comics RPG actual play experiences

This is honestly one of my favorite features of the game. The escalation of "Green" to "Red Zones" is something I've sought to import into other games. The idea of characters getting more abilities and tapping into hidden reserves as a battle goes on is such a ubiquitous trope of genre fiction...

Questions about Sentinel Comics RPG actual play experiences

Yeah, I enjoyed the game, but I'm afraid it's a bit niche in the rpg world in a genre that's already niche (supers). I think a few other things that caused my group to falter on it (and we've played a variety of Supers rpgs, including HERO, Mutants & Masterminds, Savage Worlds Supers, FASERIP)...

The Rise And Fall Of Evil Genius Games

For my part, Everyday Heroes only came on my radar when the Kong and Pacific Rim books came out. I love giant monster stuff and over the years occasionally try to hack various game engines to run kaiju 1-shots. In the end, The Kong and Rim books both had some interesting ideas and lore, but I...

The Rise And Fall Of Evil Genius Games

No, no gender implied in the class itself, just the art. I have the core book, but never played Everyday Heroes, but as a class design seems pretty solid

The Rise And Fall Of Evil Genius Games

She's a Charisma based class depicted as a certain (how-shall-I-put-it) cosplayer theme inspired by the famous Harajuku street. She has various emotional and mental control abilities ("demoralize", "hypnotize"). -Edit- Beaten to the punch by the actual picture!

Questions about Sentinel Comics RPG actual play experiences

I played this a few times, but only in very short games with irregular groups. I’d play it more but I always have a hard time gathering players who like my off brand style of super heroing. 1. I was the moderator, I would have preferred splitting the duty but no one was familiar enough with...

What is, in your opinion, the single WORST RPG ever made, and why is it so bad?

Oh, the elves are there, they just rebranded and hoped you wouldn’t notice! 😝

What is, in your opinion, the single WORST RPG ever made, and why is it so bad?

I’m going to echo too some of the frustrations of Amber Diceless. It might not objectively be the worst rpg ever made but I’ve only had bad, game group ending experiences with it. I think the GM has to really be truly in tune with the game to run it fairly and interestingly. Something about the...

    Monarch legacy of monsters

I thought the latest episode was an improvement over the last handful, but it felt like we should have gotten this amount of plot momentum about 3-4 episodes earlier. The main three modern characters have really become one-note (and almost interchangeable) at this point, I do wish the show had...

Rank the Star Trek TOS movies

    1. Wrath of Khan - it’s the only one I still watch once a year or so. That Horner soundtrack gets me pumped up everytime. 2. Star Trek VI - I feel like only at the end of their run did they figure out how to make a big adventure Trek movie. A fine send off for the TOS crew. And I’ve used that...
