D&D's Forgotten Realms Books Hit With Delays in Europe and Asia

Oh good lord. I highly doubt the delays are due to non-Americans being considered "second class citizens". The delays are more likely due to printing, shipping, or even tariffs. Delays happen. It sucks, but I have faith you'll be able to handle getting your books later.

Official News Today's The Day You Meet Your New Best Friend--Pets & Sidekicks Launches On Kickstarter!

I was wondering why I couldn't get the link to work! You're right, a quick copy/paste minus the extra text got everything working!

Dhampir and Other Species To Be Included in Astarion's Book of Hungers

DLC can be used in an anti-consumer manner, but isn't inherently so, I can agree to that. There are a lot of issues with digital content across media, for sure. It's just not all horrible and bad, IMO.

Dhampir and Other Species To Be Included in Astarion's Book of Hungers

I do think it's "digital or nothing" . . . in the sense of, WotC would not do these releases at all otherwise. It only makes financial sense for them to do them digital-only. They certainly COULD release this material in a print format . . . and if they felt it would make enough profit (or...

Dhampir and Other Species To Be Included in Astarion's Book of Hungers

Boycotts can and do work . . . but you have to have a LOT of folks participating. Not necessarily a majority of customers, but a significant minority at least. D&D fans, like all fans, complain and threaten boycotts all the time . . . but if it's just a few loud folks, it won't have much of an...

Dhampir and Other Species To Be Included in Astarion's Book of Hungers

Just because you are not okay with it, does not make it predatory. How are these three upcoming releases predatory and anti-consumer? One issue is the digital format, something downloadable (PDF) versus the web-format that is hard to archive. But that isn't "DLC is predatory" but rather the...

Dhampir and Other Species To Be Included in Astarion's Book of Hungers

Huh? That sounds like "not financially worth doing" rather than "could not possibly work financially".

Dhampir and Other Species To Be Included in Astarion's Book of Hungers

DLC is anti-consumer? Not this consumer. I'm fine with it. Prefer it for some small releases, like the three digital-only products releasing soon.

Dhampir and Other Species To Be Included in Astarion's Book of Hungers

Are you sure about that? I really don't remember anyone claiming that these three digital-only releases were ONLY possible (financially) as digital-only releases. Only worth doing financially in this format, that's seems reasonable, even if everyone doesn't see it that way or would prefer it...

Dhampir and Other Species To Be Included in Astarion's Book of Hungers

Thanks! Wow! I shouldn't be surprised that folks are up in arms, even if I think the Darrington and HeroForge collab is completely reasonable. Well, hopefully for Darrington and HeroForge, it's a loud minority making all the noise.

    Dragon Reflections #99

Hoo boy . . . yes, parenting in the 80s was a combo of parents not keeping up with societal changes and also being more "hands off" . . . and I thank the gods of Law and Chaos for that!!! Kids these days can't sneeze without oversight it seems sometimes . . . Soo many books, comics, and movies...

Dhampir and Other Species To Be Included in Astarion's Book of Hungers

Well, sure, if you're going to be hyperbolic about it. Could the digital only material we'll be getting in a few weeks have worked in some sort of print/digital product format? Sure. But would it have been worth doing financially? WotC doesn't seem to think so. And that makes sense to me, and...

Yes, what an insane position to take, it couldn't simply be a difference of reasonable opinions.

RPG CROWDFUNDING NEWS – Lodestar, Designers & Dragons, and more

November is a busy month for crowdfunding campaigns, for me at least. Oof. I backed Lodestar, because it does look so pretty . . . in spaaaace . . . I hope the content lives up to the presentation!

    Dragon Reflections #99

Oof. Bio of a Space Tyrant. As a kid, I missed the creepy themes in the Xanth books and I chased after new books by Piers Anthony. I don't remember if I was still in middle school when I read Bio, but I was young. It was the first book I remember reading, stopping, and wondering, "What the...

    Dragon Reflections #99

We had less to choose from back in the day! And there wasn't a good way to get book reviews before picking up a title as a kid in the 80s. If it had an awesome fantasy cover, it was good to go! And the Thomas Covenant books did have excellent covers!! And once you got past that initial scene...

    Dragon Reflections #99

Ah, thanks! David Eddings was a child abuser, he did real harm in the real world. Piers Anthony wrote a lot of creepy stuff into his work over the years, strong themes of child sexuality and creepy male horniness. Over and over and over again, and not just in his Xanth books (I too, read a lot...
