D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

Personally I do not care what my player's character's alignments are. Alignments to me are to be used or ignored by the person running the character or monster as they see fit. So if someone has LE on their character sheet and never betrays the party, never commits a truly evil act*, but is...

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

Better for who? I get that some people have this concept of an ideal, altruistic owner but there's no guarantee that owner would make a game that would work better for me. There are lots of people who love what they do and produce things that for my tastes are total crap. Meanwhile a lot of...

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

I assume there are many forums dedicated to MtG where you can complain. I don't play the game and don't care for the business model but I don't see how it's relevant on a D&D forum.

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

Everyone, every company that has been in existence for any period of time has done a bad thing or three along the way. But at a certain point I can only assume trolling when we keep bringing up things that happened years ago. I may as well start complaining about crap that TSR did back in the...

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

I may not state my preference using the exact same wording as @kermit4karate, but I think the game works best when the DM makes the final call whether I'm playing or running. I've had some people want to do wacky stuff - like contract lycanthropy without all the penalties so that they were...

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

Yet another thread turns into "Let's just rag on a company because it's made mistakes while insulting them on a forum dedicated the game they produce." Doesn't that ever get old? And why do it other than to just troll because you know this is supposed to be a forum about a game people enjoy...

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

Great. First it starts with a fourth leg, then it's other minor enhancements. Next thing you know it's thumbs and they realize they don't need us any more because they can open the cans of tuna for themselves and they take over the world.

But it would be more convincing if it was something other than "publicly traded companies bad" while if a company is owned by an individual you don't like it's just as bad.

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

Is WOTC currently doing anything unethical? Anything at all other than sell products people want to buy in a competitive market? Because as long as every other company is free to produce their products as well I don't see what the issue is. The only thing I care about is whether or not they...

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

I don't see why a privately held company would serve my interests as a consumer better than a publicly traded company.

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

Companies need to make a profit in order to stay in business. I do not care where the money goes, all I care about is that they produce something I want at a competitive price. I don't consider investors making money on the stock they own as nefarious, I have a great deal of savings invested...

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

Who gets to decide enough is enough? Why the artificial limit? Why not employ more people, pay more people to produce something people want to buy? Why should I miss out on a product I might enjoy because you personally think they "make enough money"? What does it matter to you?

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

If a company sells a product that is worth my money I have no issue with them making a profit on it as long as they aren't involved in shady business like anticompetitive practices. While there are exceptions to every rule, companies exist to make a profit.

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

I see no issue with a company making money as long as they are not participating in unfair or shady business practices. If they come out with a TV show or movie, they can't force me to watch it. They can't force me to buy a video game but if one comes out that I enjoy? Why would I not want that?

D&D General D&D weapons vs reality

I would also note that for the most part D&D combat doesn't resemble armies at war, it models small skirmishes. Most characters are not going to be the target of dozens of arrows flying their way in a volley. Throw in that the quality of armor varied widely from crudely made and was better...

D&D General D&D weapons vs reality

That depended on the quality of the armor and the bow. I've seen demos where an arrow from a longbow could penetrate but not by enough to do significant damage. On the the hand, the average soldier was not provided with high quality armor. But I do agree that crossbows were easier to use and...

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

DnD isn't and without a total redesign of the game can't become MtG. Obviously they want a steady revenue stream from DndBeyond and they want to make a profit on other products. That's how capitalism works - nobody publishes a game unless they believe they can make money off of it. For what...

D&D General D&D weapons vs reality

I groan every time you see those scenes where the breastplate is obviously made out of tinfoil because the only thing stopping someone from shoving a sword through their chest and out the other side is the ability to parry attacks. Why would you even bother wearing armor? Almost as bad as the...
