I just get triggered by 'it's a board game' comments. Must be PTSD from the D&D-edition wars. What you say makes sense 👍 Still wish they'd do a compiled/revised edition. I think it's hard to get into the game when rules that really improves the game and fixes things are spread over multiple books.

They really need this. I think the spread of more or less essential rules updates across various books are a big barrier to on boarding new players. I know I won't invest in 4e before there's a 4.5.

I'm not sure I see the big difference. What's challenging monster for this level vs what's a challenging CR (= monster) for this level 🤔 And what will be the result? A few pages of guidelines, or do you plan on converting all MM monsters? Not trying to be snarky, I'm just really trying to...

I meant the way CR is determined (resistance to non magic weapons affecting CR despite being worthless at level 5 at the latest, save or suck spells not affecting CR, but flame bolt does, stuff like that)

My point was that you may end up spending a lot of time on something others have done with pretty much the same pricision, since CR is bonked anyway.

And really looking forward to Forge of Foes. Bummed that international shipping killed the hardcover for me :(

The Forge of Foes CR to level is pretty close to Giffy's from a glance. FoF has CR5 equal to level 10, Giffy has it equal to level 11. And Giffy's math (afaik) is based on blog of holding/monster on a business card (I think - of course Giffy also doesn't care about resistances and such).

I think it was originally from reddit. AFAIK, it was based on 3.X and a lot of air pulling.

I think Giffy bases it on Blog of Holding's monsters on a business card. I think the math in question is by the same guy that did the Monstrous Menagerie for Level Up
