Need help with my BBEG fight

While I'm going for a swashbuckling style of combat, the game isn't actually nautical. And the cave is hundreds of miles from the sea. :) I like the planking and Ice demons, though. And (if I understand your question correctly) the PCs are 11th level, but they are seriously un-optimized...

Need help with my BBEG fight

Thanks, Whizbang. That's the kind of stuff I'm looking for. This particular cave wouldn't generally have lots of "stuff" in it (it's inaccessible to most people because the entrance is 100 feet up in a rock face) but the levels, ropes and pulleys would give the kind of movement opportunities...

Need help with my BBEG fight

So the PCs in my group will probably confront the BBEG in our next game session (tomorrow night). The confrontation will take place inside a cave, but the layout/details of the cave are completely unknown. I'd like to lay it out in such a way as to encourage lots of swashbuckly goodness (I...

    Magic chess set (Artifact)

Ooh. I like Shayuri's pawn idea. I was thinking something similar. If you could find a good low-level spell that ramps up in power with caster level, you could use that, and the caster level is equal to the number of pawns you have X2 or something.

The Ctrl + V game revisited ... in honor of Bront

    Magic chess set (Artifact)

Crazy Muffin's suggestions are good. I offer this as an alternative: The knights (both black and white) let you cast Phantom Steed. One knight gets you the spell at caster level 8, both give you caster level 12 (Air Walk ability)

When Charisma isn't the only way to measure strength of personality

Your example of the smart rogue is actually my main concern with this. It makes Charisma a dump stat for yet more characters. I'd bump the penalty up to -2 and make it apply to the skill checks as well, I think.

    Travelling Light to games

Small rolling luggage (the equivalent of an overnight bag or so) can be had fairly cheap. I bought two for my kids when we went on a trip for about $10.00 each at Target. Even when I bought them I thought "This would hold my gaming stuff really well..." :)

Freudian slip? I know I use Google to identify everything. :D

    Core Rules Survivor: FINAL ROUND!

I actually allow this in my game with a Sense Motive roll. So the NPC might figure out what you've readied, but at least I'm not cheating to do it. :) Plus the PCs can do the same thing, of course.

    Which Wiki?

I like the animated opening in tiddlywiki, but you can turn it off. I think you can also make it automatically close whatever you had open before. These two combined get you a more "traditional" navigation, but I do like the way Tiddlywiki works by default. Do keep in mind, though, that you...

CLOSED: Recruiting Call for The Colour of Fear

Jane appears to be a bored (and, to be honest, somewhat boring) adjunct professor of sociology at Wycham University. Her research into fringe and student subcultures has given her a remarkable ability to adapt to new social situations. The reserved and wry academic's transformation into...

CLOSED: Recruiting Call for The Colour of Fear

So is Jane Emory in, then? :) The write-up I did included a bit about her already being a time lord's companion, but we can easily drop that and have her start "pre-weirdness."

    Collaborative Cave!

Der Kluge: I was hoping for a finalized manuscript to put into my wikified format, as we discussed. Would it be OK for me to have such a thing? I can always wait for the PDF and do the old cut-and-paste shuffle, but now that there's a publisher involved I'm leery of stepping on anybody's toes.

    Core Rules Survivor: FINAL ROUND!

Toss up between Dodge and Counterspell for me (for pretty much the reasons given above). I went with dodge, though, simply because the Dodge feat is a requirement for so many things that the stupid rule comes up all the time. (For the record, I use the "+1 Dodge bonus to AC against everybody"...

    Which Wiki?

I really like TiddlyWiki. It's different from most wikis in that you can't edit it online. It's more of a linked notepad thingy. But it's extremely powerful and easy to use. http://www.tiddlywiki.com My lame website using tiddlywiki: http://home.comcast.net/~jim.ade/ilium/HeirsOfEmpire.html

    Discussion of Art in D&D

I like some of the earlier stuff. Clyde Caldwell and Jeff Easley in particular did a lot of work I liked. That samurai picture is, I think, quite good. I liked Jeff Dee's stuff, too, though it's a very different style. But there's no question that the average quality of art in WotC...

Quick help needed - most powerful 3rd lvl build

Ok. Core rules only changes things pretty drastically. :) Darklone: D'oh! Of course you're better off going straight warlock in this case. I'm being dumb. A wizard with scrolls is certainly a viable option. As Daedrova says, scorching ray has lots of bang for the buck. A wand of magic...
