RPG Buzzwords that have effectively lost their meaning due to poor over-use

I'd say that anytime the jargon gets in the way of the important things you're talking about, it becomes a problem. And I'd say that the vast majority of threads where there's a huge (and angry) debate, it's due to mis-applied definitions. In those cases people are just talking past each other.

    13th Age 13th Age 2E update!

It's wonderful to hear the news. I am a huge fan of the game, and managed to play a session with Jonathan and Rob. Great people. And I just hope that the game doesn't get lost if the shuffle of all the big releases coming out this year. This is one project that I backed for the PDFs and the...

    Draw Steel News

It seems we have reached this part of the discussion about the project. I like Matt. I like MCDM. Matt knows a million times more about running a project like this than I do. And at the same time, whoever is managing the social media/updates part of this project has done a crappy job. I've...

    Draw Steel News

This has been an experience I didn't expect. I've listened to Matt for a long time, and have seen how he's run previous projects. And he brought in a bigger team for Draw Steel. I'm sort of at the point where I'm losing any concern for how this project is going to come out. And the thing is...

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

I think people are just excited for it. It's the current shiny. Will that last? Well, Draw Steel and other games will be out in the not-too-distant future, so let's see. I, foolishly or not, have backed a lot of stuff that will get released this year.

    Draw Steel News

For what it's worth, I'm a backer but not a Patreon member, so the last update I have is from May 30th. The last backerkit I have was from back in December. If you backed, that may be helpful.

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

I think for the same reason I've seen games in nearly every genre for 5E: it's what people are comfortable with. Back in the 3.0 era, there was this terrible book called Foundation, which was purported to be a super hero game using the 3E rules. That's the benchmark I use for the worst RPG...

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

I think you very much could run horror in Daggerheart. The Stress system is right out there on the table to start things off. What I would do is start of by causing Stress to the character attempting an action any time they succeed with Fear, and to the entire group whenever they failed. And...

    Draw Steel News

Oh sure, they are very different games and I think that some of the people who bounced off of DH will enjoy Draw Steel. I'm one of those who backed both games. Along with 13th Age. It will be a really interesting year for new games, and I think some of them are going to be lost in the mix. But...

    Draw Steel News

It is interesting how close we are coming to launch and things are not ramping up. I think Daggerheart is taking the wind out of a lot of projects sails. I backed the project and, I suppose it will be interesting to see where it goes when it comes out.

Dungeons & Dragons Shifts to Franchise Model, Dan Ayoub Named as Head

So it looks like WotC had someone do the Marvel presentation for them, back when Marvel was having troubles and they told them the value of the company wasn't in comic books, but in the comic book character IP. And so we have D&D where there are owlbears and beholders and dragons ... and that's...

D&D General Hasbro enters gambling deal using Dungeons & Dragons intellectual property

Just a quick question about this partnership. Are we talking web or app based virtual games, or something physical? I know that Vegas and Casinos on reservations that I've been to have been 21+ so I think players would be a little older than seems to be expected. And I'm going to be honest and...

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

Looking at the character, I notice I had three abilities (I think the GM gave everyone a bonus power). They were: I am your shield Mending Touch Reassurance I also had Prayer Dice and a Flight ability. You might say "why would you do this?" And the answer was that I wanted to have these...

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

I really wasn't. I am not with my books or character at the moment (what? No access to drivethru at work!) but I had a healing power and a power to offer re-rolls. I also had a weapon, which was decent. I just wasn't nearly as good as the other characters, and my powers still were really useful...

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

I think it really depends on your character. I played a Clank / Seraph character (based on Old Bob from The Black Hole) and I found myself helping others and keeping everyone standing upright. We did a six-session game and I think I make an attack ... two or three times over the entire game. And...

It's been tried before. I'm just on community service for Internet Warrior-ing.

D&D General Hasbro enters gambling deal using Dungeons & Dragons intellectual property

This is what's going on. The value in D&D is increasingly becoming the brand. If I saw a D&D slot machine, I'd probably spend some money just on a lark. I feel the same way with the pinball machine. When I was a Gen Con (a while ago now) we used to grab the beer that was branded from the Con...

What do YOU plan on doing with Daggerheart?

One of the things I found from running DH is that you make fewer rolls in it than in other games (like 5E). This means any individual check means more. If you only make three checks all game outside of combat, three fails with fear can have more of an impact. In a typical 5E session (and I just...

D&D General D&D Beyond's Users Online Over Last Year

It will be really interesting to see how much this spikes with upcoming book releases, as well as the starter set. One of the things I was floored over was how well the core books for 5.0E continued to sell, year in and year out. The fact that this is happening so soon after launch in 5.5E is...

D&D 5E (2014) Amazon US book sales rank.

If it's somehow important, we can change the name of the thread to 2024 5E. Not sure why this is an issue.
