    Newer classes in older adventures?

As the others have said, Essentials is 100% compatible; that said, the Monster Vault and MM3 monsters are much better designed than previous monsters, leading to faster, grittier combat. You might want to substitute them for the monsters in the adventure. (To be clear: The old monsters work...

Dungeon 185 - Bark at the Moon: Dungeons biggest adventure

I pulled my subscription a few months ago, so I haven't seen Bark at the Moon, but isn't this tile rage a little over done? I'm not a fan of DTiles at all--I don't own a one--and I don't like DTile maps, and yet it seems like that would be the last thing I'd be thinking about when evaluating the...

    Wintry Allies: A Bonus Supplement

Morrus, am I correct in thinking Wintry Song 4e isn't out yet? If it is out, where can I find it?

Monster Builder (the non-online one) gets a patch!

I personally found the RPGA stuff to be unwanted noise. My guess is that they're removing it to cut down on information overload, not for any nefarious reason.

    WotBS Tell me about WotBS

I have to strongly disagree with this. I think WotBS is as about as non-railroady as it's possible for a published adventure path to get. The Fire Forest seems railroady, but it's not actually. There are a lot of ways to skip sections (my players just skipped a major chunk of it last session)...

Considering abridging the fire forest. Thoughts?

SPOILERS, of course. My players are entering the third act of this adventure now, so I've been studying it fairly carefully. It's a complex adventure, but I'm really enjoying it. As I see it, there are four main threads and two batches of filler: Main threads: * Who started the fire? * Why is...

    DDI Updates in December

I have no tolerance for piracy-reduction measures that inconvenience paying customers. Never have. (And when taken to the extreme, you get silly things like pirates getting *better* convenience than paying customers, like how pirates don't have to sit through mandatory anti-pirating ads at the...

Anyone Done the Math on Treasure Parcels?

That might have been me. http://www.enworld.org/forum/4e-discussion/294059-essentials-treasure-parcels-analyzed.html

    DDI VT Beta thread

ScreenFlow on the Mac is excellent. Don't know what's good on Windows--I've only used Camtasia.

The biggest issue with the new Character Builder:

I don't come here to argue about software methods, but this is my area of expertise as an author and international speaker. In a nutshell, there are many ways to estimate. For traditional phase-based projects, McConnell's Software Estimation describes many ways of estimating projects without...

The biggest issue with the new Character Builder:

There are legitimate, successful approaches to software development that don't involve a work breakdown structure. I'm not defending WotC's software development approach, which does appear dysfunctional, and I'm one of those that has let his subscription lapse. But you're drawing conclusions...

    DDI VT Beta thread

I'd guess the recording. The mouse pointer was very choppy, and there was a second-or-so sync delay between the audio and video. Looks like it was produced with Camtasia Studio, which I've found to be mediocre at best.

Fire Forest of Innenotdar: The Collected Backstory

Yeah, the first two 4e conversions both had additional material. Some of it good, some not. Haven't checked later adventures, yet.

    Online CB yea or nay?

No: Without inherent bonuses, it's useless for my campaign. No: The 20-character limit is a slap in the face. It doesn't affect me personally, but it disrespects me. (I let my subscription lapse a few weeks ago, so I haven't actually used the new CB yet, so take my vote with a grain of salt.)

    Monster Vault impressions

I love the counter collections, and I make all of my own counters on heavy-duty chipboard, so the Counter Collection Digital products with the individual JPEGs are the ones I buy. These always seem to get updated late--I hope you'll bring those back too, hint hint.

    Do you DDI?

Quarterly subscription that just expired, here. Their software strategy has been one blunder after another, so I'm waiting to see if they can get their act together before I resubscribe. I'm also waiting for some more compelling content--I stopped reading Dungeon and Dragon months ago, and...

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

Yeah, I can understand the rest of it... two and half years with no new tools while they rewrote their software, the move to online-only, even characters in the cloud. But the 20-character limit just feels cheap. It's a literal insult added to the injury of something that was obviously created...

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

I agree that the 20 character limit is probably intended to prevent people from sharing a single account. WotC strikes me as being very concerned about piracy. But you know what? There's no stopping piracy, and my support of anti-piracy measures goes up in smoke the very instant it makes my life...

    Flag in The Sand!

The first of the new web-based tools is announced. How did you do? My results: I hit this one pretty well, with the glaring mistake that the new CB isn't Essentials-only. But from the screenshots, it does have the streamlined interface and clear choices at each step of the way, including an...

You get equipment list. DM gets rest.

Wow, this topic is being threadcrapped into oblivion. I've never done this, DocMoriarty, so I can't share any experiences. But best of luck getting some straight answers. It sounds like an interesting idea. I'll also second the suggestion to look at games that are designed with this sort of...
