D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

Captured by the bad guys during a cut scene? Of course they take all your gear and instead of using it so you can retrieve it later, it gets destroyed. Even worse is the game sequel trope where you no longer have the equipment you had before or the training and skills. But you are totally the...

If you've been playing with people for over 20 years the dynamic is different. Most people don't have that luxury.

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

Nobody can force a person to play a game they don't like. If a core assumption of any optional leisure time activity doesn't work for you and you can't find people that will change that assumption, perhaps the activity isn't for you. edit - it has nothing to do with "morally unacceptable"...

We're all allowed to state our opinions as long as we respectfully state our opinions especially when we disagree ... although some of the responses have been borderline. Whether or not the DM makes the final call on rulings, house rules, all sorts of things comes down to preference and opinion...

No, I'm badmouthing my players because I acknowledge that a small percentage will push the envelope on acceptable house rules. That, and many people if asked to vote would feel uncomfortable telling someone no. Mostly I just view it as a way to denigrate my opinion because I disagree.

You don't consider a custom race a house rule? Race is not part of the rules of the game? Okay. I do. Guess that's just one more thing we disagree on.

I've given examples of what some people wanted as house rules. I've explained why I do what I do. I don't care one way or another what you or anyone else do. I am not going to discuss what a third party did or did not say. I see no value in continuing to discuss this.

You obviously did not read what I wrote and now you're just insulting. I'm done

I'm not badmouthing anyone. I gave examples of requests for house rules and explained why I don't like voting and think DM decides works better and has, as far as I can tell, worked well for the majority of people that have played D&D for the past half century. You are pretty clearly saying my...

The werewolf and half-vampire-half-dragon were requests for a house rule from different people. My players can always ask for a new house rule or a change to an existing one and we'll discuss it, but I make the final call. It's as simple as that and as far as I can tell you are telling me that...

D&D General D&D weapons vs reality

Umm ... is the war in Ukraine really relevant? Other than to point out that the tools of war change over time.

I'm not the one accusing you of playing wrong because we have different preferences.

Neither are you. We're just expressing our opinions and my preference is just as valid as anyone else's.

The majority of players self-centered or incompetent? No. But the few that are? They could wreck the game for the other 6 people at the table. I've seen it many times. If the DM does it? Find a different DM. If a player does it and the DM has no veto power? What are the options? This...

Most people, when they are discussing collaborative games are talking about collaborative world building. As far as house rules, you can always suggest something but as DM I retain the right to say no because people have proposed crazy stuff. I mentioned the guy who wanted to be a werewolf...

D&D General Why do people like Alignment?

I thought DMs were Chaotic Evil? Always changing things on a whim with no logic or explanation. They cackle in glee as they ignore the pleas for mercy from their poor oppressed subjects crying out in dismay at another ruling designed to cause the maximum amount of pain. The piteous players...

Wizards of the Coast Head Explains Benefits to D&D Franchise Model

I would think that many could be considered part of those shared resources they mentioned in the article. Part of the issue development hits is balancing workload with headcount. So if they can have people that are needed more for specific stages and time it so that they can jump from one...

I've played and DMed a lot of public games over the years. I've also had to start up new groups a few times because of moving. Starting up a group after college almost always included at least a few people I had never met. It's been a great way to make new friends. Trust until proven...

Since when is a preference a problem? If I'm playing I don't want to do any world building. If you have a different preference that's not a problem either.

I've had far more problems with fellow players than DMs. It's simply a numbers thing, ther are typically 6 players to 1 DM. If I don't trust the DM to make decisions they won't be my DM for long.
