    Weapons as special effects

A thought on unarmed damage: Perhaps make unarmed damage a step below Light, as it is now, and just have monks gain a special +1 damage step when fighting unarmed at every level their unarmed damage would normally increase. Or something to that effect. --Impeesa--

The Wizard of Oz School of DMing

I can second this, or at least part of this. Ad-libbing takes a great deal of skill. I've played in games where the GM flew entirely by the seat of their pants, and it became very discouraging for me. When all decisions are based on eyeballing and dice rolls, any effort I put in to making an...

The Uncommon BBEG - Not so bad, not so evil

Or rather than all evil, how about all good? This reminds me of a campaign I'd like to run. It would be a war game, in the sense that most PCs will take Leadership and there will be frequent large-scale combat. It would be open-ended, where the PCs can pursue many different avenues in building...

[Geography] When and where does the sun rise in the north?

Yes. I know it's near the poles, and fairly easy to visualize, but unfortunately I do not recall the actual latitude (or the angle of earth's tilt, which would allow one to calculate it). Dunno if that's really important to what you're after, though. You should get the extra-long day at the...

Throwing in NPCs to help along small parties

This is me. This is me making my will save vs. dirty comment. ;) --Impeesa--

Dwarves rock, Half-orcs suck! - An analysis

A quick comment on the points... as a general rule, I'd say an ability score penalty is worth less (in absolute value) than a bonus of equal amount. When you're trying to squeeze out a high prime stat, every point counts, but it's usually pretty easy to suck up a penalty to your not-so-prime...

Feng Shui, Paranoia and other such games

Alternity is the best classless, level-less system ever, which is a big accomplishment for a game that still has classes and levels. ;) --Impeesa--

Help! I need help updating the Heart of Nightfang Spire!

Speaking as someone with a Large PC, I can tell you the whole adventure path (at least, up to that point, not sure about the rest) really discriminates against the 10x10' folk. Just make the rooms larger. ;) --Impeesa--

    Tell me a love story!!!

Hm. I've been with my girlfriend for nearly 5 years (started going out late in high school, we're 21 now)... I don't have any cute "love at first sight" stories for you all, since the first time I met her I was a bit too young to be thinking such things. Hell, I think I was a bit too young to be...

    Did anyone play Gorgoland's Gauntlet?

Addendum: some stories from when we played. :) The rust monsters - everyone fears rust monsters. Thankfully, my character just happened to be naturally aquatic, so it was a much simpler-than-normal task to hop outside and scavenge up some 'greatclubs' from the forest floor. ;) The minesweeper...

Sustaining Damage Imposes Penalties on D20 Rolls

Rolemaster uses very similar penalties, at (the percentile equivalent of) -0/-2/-4/-6. Makes being near death a noticeable penalty, but not crippling. That would also mean you don't start taking a -1 the moment someone nicks you with a stray sling bullet. ;) --Impeesa--

Tell me about halflings in your world.

My halflings are pretty generic, but I thought I'd comment on something else: can't justify the overlap between gnomes and dwarves? Here's a thought: make gnomes be dwarf/halfling crosses. They share their dwarven parent's logical aptitude, and their halfling parent's inquisitive spirit. ;) Of...

    Did anyone play Gorgoland's Gauntlet?

Played through it last spring. Good module to get new or rusty players thinking. ;) Fun story: A party member kept the sword from the end, and still had it on her going into Heart of Nightfang Spire. At the top of the tower, we see the giant pile of coins. Just for kicks, she pops the sword in...

Calling all Teachers: A question about my education

I went to a fairly generic middle-class high school, and we had an English teacher with a PhD. Aside from the budgetary issues already discussed, I can't see any school complaining about overqualification - they should recognize that the extra depth of knowledge can greatly enhance the learning...

    Fluid/changing party makeup

A good policy, to be sure. You can take all kinds of ideas from it. A few of Sollir's PrC's over in House Rules are based off a Holy Swordsman PrC that I did a while back. On a related note, want to see something terrible? Observe what my dvd drive did to my non-greatest-hits FFT cd. It makes...

    Fluid/changing party makeup

I once had an idea vaguely similar to that. It was basically inspired by Final Fantasy Tactics. I envisioned a party that would consist of a stable of a dozen or more characters, from which any players who were there could select their PC for the evening. Only those characters being actively...

I finally broke down and set an avatar last year, when I caught a good picture of myself with a digital camera and a bathroom mirror. :D --Impeesa--

    Dwarven Defender Elves

I recommend the original poster check out the Stoneblessed PrC from Races of Stone. It has extremely low prereqs and is only 3 levels long, and when you're done with it you count as a dwarf (or gnome or goliath, but who likes them? ;)) for prereqs of other things. --Impeesa--

Which Fantasy Mech book is best?

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but it's worth pointing out that only the city-mechs are city sized. It also has a fairly detailed system for fantasy mecha on a more useful scale, such as a hero might pilot. --Impeesa--

Need thoughts on Red Mage Class

Full spell progression (with kind of a strange pattern) plus full BAB and nice bonus feats to boot is over the top. The strength of the red mage is versatility - depending on whether you want more of a mage or a fighter with spells, I'd either drop the casting to bardic progression or drop the...
